General Summary
Develop, revise, implement and
monitor University health, safety and environmental programs/activities to ensure compliance with federal, state and local occupational
safety, health and environmental regulations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Revise, implement and
monitor compliance with University safety, health and environmental programs in assigned program areas. - Assist the Director,
Environmental Health and Safety in developing new health and safety related programs and trainings activities. - Assist the Director,
Environmental Health and Safety in planning and setting goals and objectives for assigned program areas. - Provide specialized
technical support during site visits, complaint investigations, and audits of work environments to ensure compliance with applicable
standards and regulations. - Coordinate and manage assigned programs including but not limited to:
- Occupational safety and
health. - Environmental programs.
- Asbestos and mold abatement.
- Indoor air quality.
- Ergonomic
evaluations. - AED and Narcan programs.
- PPE, forklifts, aerial lifts, general safety.
- Food and water safety, and
Right to Know - Serve as technical consultant to faculty and staff regarding environmental, occupational safety and health management
issues; manage the investigation of incidents and exposures.
- Occupational safety and
- Assist the Director, Environmental Health and Safety with
general safety, food and water safety, asbestos abatement and industrial hygiene bids; and incorporate cost containment measures into
program operations dealing with these areas. - Develop, revise and implement training and educational programs in assigned program
areas for University faculty and staff. - Maintain documentation and database of safety training in conjunction with the HR LMS
system. - Monitor federal and state regulations for safety, health and the environment to incorporate new and update regulations into
program areas. - Coordinate and manage detailed studies to assess occupational and environmental safety hazards, exposures to hazards
and effectiveness of controls and hazard reduction potential. - Assist with other program areas including, but not limited to,
laboratory safety, biological safety, radiation safety, hazardous waste, insurance audits and risk and emergency management. - Assist
with special projects as assigned by the Director, Environmental Health and Safety. - Perform related departmental duties as
required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, industrial
hygiene, environmental and industrial health or related scientific field or 8 years experience in one of these fields is required or
combination of degree and experience.
A minimum of three years of progressively more responsible experience in occupational safety
and health, industrial hygiene and/or environmental programs is required. Experience at a college or university preferred.
Must
possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in one of the following specialty
areas is preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP),
Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM), Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) or other field related certifications.
