Description
UM Housing invites applications for a Housing Systems, Data, and Automation Specialist to serve as the primary technical and analytical authority for Housing Integrated Systems, with a central focus on StarRez and related enterprise technologies.
The complexity of work ranges from routine system maintenance to highly complex system design and integration efforts. The position is expected to anticipate needs, resolve issues independently, and continuously improve systems and processes while aligning with departmental and institutional goals.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and manage data architecture, integrations, imports, mapping strategies, student-facing portal experiences, and configuration consistency across housing systems and functional areas
- Collaborate with campus partners, communications teams, and StarRez consultants to support system-driven communications, custom tools, advanced modules, and an optimized student housing experience
- Develop, maintain, and optimize reporting, analytics, and executive dashboards across StarRez, Banner, SQL/StarQL, Tableau, and Microsoft tools to support strategic planning, operational decision-making, performance measurement, and housing metrics
- Establish reporting standards, train and support staff in data utilization, and ensure accurate completion of institutional and industry reporting requirements while helping leadership effectively interpret and apply data insights
- Lead and support integrations between housing systems, Banner, and campus platforms by collaborating with IT and stakeholders to ensure reliable data exchanges and effective manual processes where integrations are unavailable
- Leverage AI, APIs, scripting, and Microsoft technologies to drive automation, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the student residential experience through thoughtful system design
- Provide advanced administration, troubleshooting, training, and optimization of StarRez and related housing systems while driving system, data, and process improvements through automation, analytics, and industry best practices
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Two (2) or more years of experience supporting enterprise systems, data management, reporting, or business process and technology operations
- Proficiency with relational databases and query development (e.g., SQL), including data analysis and reporting
- Experience configuring, maintaining, and supporting enterprise platforms such as CRM or student information systems
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions, workflows, system configurations, and actionable reporting dashboards
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to support users across varying technical skill levels
- Excellent project management, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and across cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Business, or a related field, with experience in higher education, student housing, or similar operational environments
- Expertise administering enterprise systems (e.g., StarRez, CRM, student information systems), including system implementation, optimization, and process improvement initiatives
- Strong technical skills in relational databases, SQL/StarQL querying, system integrations, APIs, data exchanges, automation tools, and the Microsoft Power Platform
- Experience developing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools, while establishing reporting standards, data governance, and documentation frameworks
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects, train users, create technical documentation, and leverage emerging technologies, automation, and AI to improve operational efficiency
Additional Information
Position Number: S4L001
Compensation Title: Computer Systems Analyst II
Bargaining Unit: FOCUS-MFPE
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year
Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
