Posting Description


HR/FINANCE ASSISTANT, Chemical Engineering, performs complex and diverse administrative duties in support of Human Resources and Finance Administration; assists in a wide range of human resource and GIB finance related functions to ensure a seamless support to both functions in the Department; collaborates with other functional areas in the Department of Chemical Engineering such as the academic office, research administration office, faculty assistants, etc. and with relevant MITunits such as VPF (payroll, accounting, etc), MITemps (Nextsource), MIT UROP office, MIT HR, etc to resolve challenging questions; provides relevant administrative support to the ChemE HR team and ChemE Financial Administrator; process, track and approve all forms of student payroll in the Department (UROPs, TAs, RAs, Non-MIT students, etc); provide administrative support for on-boarding, recruitment, search processes, performance reviews, HR events, projects, etc. Will help coordinate and schedule HR related meetings; manage temporary payroll processes. Ensure temps are set up with ID’s, Kerberos, etc; respond to routine questions or issues related to personnel and policy as referenced on the web and make appropriate referrals for more complex issues as appropriate; generate relevant letters (i.e. postdoc non-renewal letters), reports, and forms; update databases; and help manage the background checks process in the Department.



Job Requirements

REQUIRED: A minimum of three years of administrative, office, or related experience; excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and discretion; strong attention to detail; and strong computer skills. PREFERRED: Associate/Bachelor’s degree; experience supporting finance or HR; experience using MS Office, BrioQuery and SAP; or database application(s) experience.
