About the Opportunity

The Locksmith/Maintenance Technician is responsible for assessing and responding to utility, electrical and a locksmith needs of the campus for both employees and students in order to assure the safety of the campus community.

The Locksmith/Maintenance Technician is considered “essential personnel” and is required to provide various duties and operations/maintenance services during and outside normal working hours and during institution closures; Evening and weekend work will be required for major events (scheduled /unscheduled) such as: commencement, student move-in, shutdowns, storms, emergencies etc.

Essential personnel includes snow removal which may include shoveling, operating a snowblower, driving and operating a Kubota or gator, salting, and assuring the campus is safe.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete work requests in a timely, professional and efficient manner; troubleshoot problem areas as necessary.
• Assure the safety and security of all work areas
• Repair, replace and re-key locks as necessary and required.
• Design, construct and install signs as necessary and required.
• Repair and maintain all doors and associated hardware, security, and automation devices to assure they are in good working order for the safety and security of the campus community.
• Assist with painting and remodeling projects as required.
• Maintain appropriate inventory for spare parts; order parts as necessary and approved through supervision.
• Provide general maintenance such as painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical functions
• Assist with moving equipment, furniture and other items as necessary
• Responds to on-call and after-hours emergencies.
• Update and maintain electronic work orders and inventory records.
• Complete other duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

Education, Training and Licenses

• Minimum two (2) years’ experience with power tools, key making and testing equipment and operation of mobile platforms and man lifts
• Familiarity with building trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical
• Understanding of building construction, regulations and safety practices
• High School diploma (or equivalent) required.
• Valid, active Pennsylvania driver’s license and safe driving record.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Familiarity and experience with and applicable technology including Microsoft word, internet, email applications, work order systems, etc.
• Good communication, customer service, interpersonal and team building skills
• Effective time management, organizational and prioritization skills
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a cooperative working relationship with others, including faculty, staff and students.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Able to walk or stand for long periods of time
• Able to climb ladders and scaffolding to perform work
• Able to work up to 50 feet off the ground on a lift
• Able to work in awkward or cramped spaces and positions
• Able to reach, bend, push and/or hold objects on a regular basis
• Able to lift 50 pounds and carry it 75 feet, with or without assistance
• Able and available to independently travel to other locations on and off campus
• Able and available to evenings and weekends as necessary and required for departmental operations
