Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Under minimal supervision, performs maintenance, repair, and preventative care on College-owned vehicles and grounds equipment. This position ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for use across the College. Advanced repairs and specialized tasks may be assigned based on experience and training.

Perform routine maintenance and repairs on gas and diesel vehicles and grounds equipment.

Conduct preventive maintenance on all College-owned vehicles and equipment.

Operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, and computer systems for maintenance records.

Maintain a clean and organized work area, tools, and equipment.

Assist with snow removal and emergency maintenance as required.

Perform welding on College-owned equipment when needed.

Operate computer system for maintenance history of all vehicles.

Provide quarterly updates on vehicle conditions of all College-owned vehicles.

Train and support drivers in safe vehicle operation, as needed.

Order parts and supplies and maintain accurate inventory.

Create and complete work orders and time reports.

Participate in ongoing skills development and ASE Certification activities.

Follow safety procedures and report any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor.

Required to report to work during emergency conditions and may be assigned to report at a different time and location and to perform different duties as necessary.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certified Mechanic Certificate required
  • A.S.E. Certification preferred
  • Two year college education preferred.
  
  

• Experience
  • 2 + years’ experience as an automotive or small engine mechanic, or a combination of experience and education required.
  • Knowledge of hand tools, ignition tune-up machines, welding equipment, and general automotive repair tools required.
  • Minimally proficient in spoken English required.

Working Conditions:

Small ladders or step stools used regularly.

Required to be scheduled on call to aid in snow emergencies.

Must be able to lift 50+ pounds.

Must be able to bend, reach, work on hands and knees of necessary.

Uniform appearance must be clean and in good wear.

Must wear solid soled shoes.

Usually good conditions, but could be exposed to harsh weather and long hours in emergency situations.

Position requires extensive walking and the ability to climb stairs and ladders.

Required uniforms supplied by the College of DuPage.

Must pass physical exam at College expense.

This position requires a background check, physical and drug screen.

Hiring Range:
7 Hourly/Starting salary beginning at $22.63/hourly.

Competitive starting pay is dependent on education and experience.
