Under the supervision of the Goodwin University Magnet School System Chief Operating Officer and the Goodwin University Director of Campus Safety, the mobile classroom driver is responsible for transporting the vehicle to activities and events and for setting up and breaking down vehicle components associated with the magnet school system and the Regional School Choice Office (RSCO). This position may also operate other GUMSS/GU vehicles.
The mobile classroom driver plays a vital role in supporting school choice outreach and family engagement efforts across the Greater Hartford Region. This position is responsible for safely operating and maintaining the mobile classroom while serving as a key member of the outreach team. The driver helps bring essential information and services directly to communities by supporting recruitment events, assisting with on-site setup, and ensuring the mobile classroom is fully functional and welcoming for all families. Working closely with the marketing, recruitment, retention, and Welcome Center team to support the district and RSCO initiatives, the driver contributes to expanding access to public School Choice opportunities by helping deliver reliable, community-based engagement services. This role requires a commitment to safety, professionalism, and mission-driven work that supports our core values of providing equitable access to educational opportunities for all families.
Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

- Transports the mobile classroom throughout the State of Connecticut as required for various marketing and outreach activities, including but not limited to classes, educational functions, or community-related events.
- Checks vehicle to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order.
- Maintains logs of working hours of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
- Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, or covers.
- Set up and break down equipment in the mobile classroom.
- Follows appropriate safety procedures.
- Works a flexible schedule (which may include week nights, weekends, and holidays).
- Responsible for vehicle cleanliness and the coordination of minor repairs with the Fleet Manager.
- Safely conducts all work and ensures that all work safety practices are followed.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Other Functions:
- Assists with tours, public relations events, fairs, and marketing presentations.
- Conducts demonstrations on the mobile classroom.
- Leads workshops for visitors, students, and clients.
- Assists GUMS staff during training workshops.
- Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
- Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.
- Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.

- Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity
- Strong collaborative, organizational, and communication skills; ability to establish rapport with diverse families and staff.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Able to lift and carry 20 lbs.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
- Class A commercial driver’s license
- Class B CDL License- with a P endorsement (Preferred)
- Maintain a valid commercial driver medical certification as required by CT State law
- High School Diploma
- Experience working with children
- Experience supporting programs, events, or community outreach
*Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to build relationships and develop data collection systems.*
