GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Network and Telecommunications Manager position is part of the Information
Technology Services Department and supports Lamar State College Orange, Lamar State College Port Arthur, and Lamar Institute of Technology.
This role reports to the Director of Infrastructure Services and is responsible for assisting with the daily operations and maintenance of
data, voice, and video networks. This position is security sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes the
employer to obtain criminal history record information. Duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS



1. Plans, designs, installs, and maintains the voice, data, and video network.
2. Configures,
monitors, and maintains network equipment including routers, firewalls, switches and network security equipment.
3. Monitors, maintains,
and enhances network security.
4. Implements enhancements to network.
5. Create, maintain, and enhance maps for all Network, Data and
Voice jacks– Includes maps of inter-building wiring.
6. Communicates with vendors, analyzes RFP’s and bid specifications, and monitors
on-going projects.
7. Maintains disaster recovery plan for network and telephone systems.
8. Works with System Administrators to
maintain and enhance PC based network servers including OS installation, patching & updating, and application management as
necessary.
9. Create and maintain centralized documentation for all tasks.

This position has been identified as a position involving “critical infrastructure” as defined under Texas law. As
a condition of employment, this position requires that applicants for and employees in this position be able to maintain the security and
integrity of the critical infrastructure at all points during their employment with Lamar State College Orange.

GENERAL
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS


Education
Graduation from an accredited four-year college with major course work in
computer science or a related field. Minimum of five years job experience with jobs leading to this or similar job. Experience and training
can be substituted for education. Experience with Microsoft Systems Management andSQLservers is preferred. Vendor certifications are a
plus.

Experience
Experience with complex Ethernet data networks, Cisco/Meraki network and security equipment, 802.11
Wireless, Gigabit circuits and multipleWANconnections, and PC based servers (including virtual servers) running Windows Server OS preferred.
Higher Education experience is considered a plus.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of LAN’s
    and WAN’s and related equipment, specifically Cisco and Meraki networking equipment and software.
  • Knowledge of network
    management software, network protocols, and standards.
  • Knowledge of network security issues, resolutions, practices, and network
    forensics.
  • Knowledge of PC based server hardware and software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose network problems
    quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to troubleshoot computer problems in a networked environment.
  • High degree of
    communication skills, written and spoken.
  • Ability to create, evaluate, and document procedures.
  • Ability to solve
    problems and be multi-tasked.
  • Ability to deal with students, faculty, and staff in a professional manner.
  • Ability to
    establish effective working relationships with others.
  • Must be able to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from
    diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to promote a positive campus image.
  • Ability to follow established college policies and
    procedures.

Physical Requirements


Requires constant sitting, seeing, walking. Requires frequent standing, lifting,
pushing, and carrying objects up to 25 pounds, operating micro-computer, calculator, and various office equipment. Requires frequent
stooping, bending, sorting and filing.

Security Sensitive



This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to
the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215.
