Summary
This position will check and
service building steam supply valves, air condition equipment, ventilation fans, and other mechanical equipment during assigned shift.
Perform routine chemical test on various steam and water systems as prescribed and add chemicals as necessary. Perform equipment
maintenance. Keep accurate records and report any equipment malfunctions/problems. Respond to emergencies and perform related duties as
assigned or as become apparent. In the absence of Chief Engineer, Licensed Engineers will supervise the duties performed by any Unlicensed
Engineer present on shift.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– Some vocational training preferred.
–
Must possess and maintain a current valid drivers’ license.
– Ability to carry out instructions and perform duties accurately and safely
required.
– Ability to work different shifts required.
– Ability to work during extreme hot, cold, windy, or rainy weather in
performing assigned duties required.
– Ability to perform the essential duties of the job required, including the ability to safely
handle loads of 50 pounds minimum.
– Ability to work cooperatively with others of diverse personalities, education and cultural
backgrounds required.
– Ability to comprehend and relay orders and specifications of supervisor and work without constant direct
supervision.
– Ability to report to work on time and ability to work overtime when needed required.
– Ability to obtain OEHS
certification for N-95 and SCBA upon employment per OEHS and OSHA regulation section 1910.134.(g)(1)(i) subtitle 1910.134(g)(1)(:)(A), and
1910.134(g)(1)(:)(B) required; ability to maintain SCBA and N-95 certification once certified required.
Special Required
Ability for Incumbents Who Have Contact or Exposure to Animals or Animal Tissues:
Ability to complete and pass successfully the
required occupational health screening referenced in the University’s Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis.
Required Background Check, Physical, and Drug Screening for Incumbents Who Have Contact or Exposure to Animals or Animal
Tissues:
Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of
employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation, required occupational health
screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.
The TNBRC
maintains Biosafety Level 3 facilities and performs work on diverse infections agents many of which can cause serious disease in humans if
standard operating procedures, including use of appropriate personal protective equipment, are not followed. Depending on agent specific
risk assessments, individuals may be offered, or in some cases required to have, vaccinations against the relevant agents.
This
position is assigned to work in BSL3 containment areas and there are additional minimum requirements including some or all of the
following:
– Must pass a US Department of Justice Security Risk Assessment for access to select biological agents and toxins.
–
Ability to perform job duties while wearing respiratory protection.
– Must participate in drug and alcohol program and comply with TNBRC
drug and alcohol policy.
THIS IS AN ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL POSITION. IF YOU ARE REQUIRED TO WORK DURING A CLOSURE, YOU MUST PROVIDE
ACCURATE AND CURRENT CONTACT INFORMATION AND ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING COMMUNICATION WITH TNPRC. FAILURE TO REPORT TO WORK WHEN
REQUESTED BY SUPERVISOR OR MANAGER WILL RESULT IN DISCIPLINARY ACTION AS OUTLINED BY THE STAFF HANDBOOK.
Required
Education and/or Experience:
– High School Diploma or equivalent required.
– Licensed operating engineer.
Minimum 3rd Class Stationary Boiler.
– Specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents are
required.
Preferred Qualifications:
– HVAC license preferred
– Ability to perform job duties while wearing
respiratory protection.
– Responsible for understanding and utilizing the work order process.
