Overview
Provide general onsite maintenance and facility assistance for Blackhawk Technical College under the supervision of the Director –
Facilities. Provide basic support including lawn and landscaping duties, basic preventative maintenance, classroom and special event set-up,
while referring more complex assistance to the Maintenance Technician II or III.
This position will be open until filled,
with a first review date of August 10, 2026. After this date, the recruitment may close without further notice. Interested applicants are

Responsibilities
- Maintain grounds, campus roads, sidewalks, and
parking lots including lawn mowing, trimming, irrigation, and snow removal for required campus buildings - Perform necessary surface
preparation and apply paint, shellac, varnish, enamel, stain or other protective coatings to various surfaces, using brush, spray, roller,
cloth or other means. - Move heavy furniture or equipment from one location to another. Complete work orders for room setup or
breakdown activities. - Perform a variety of maintenance and minor repair work to the interior and exterior of
buildings. - Function as a helper to Maintenance Technician II and Maintenance Technician III, assisting in major plumbing, heating,
electrical or carpentry repairs. - Perform repairs to interior and exterior windows, walls, and doors along with the associated frames
and hardware. - Perform minor drywall, plaster, or ceramic tile wall repairs and various flooring and roofing repairs.
- Perform
basic preventative maintenance to include replacing water and air filters and lubricating and changing belts on various pieces of mechanical
equipment such as motors, generators, compressors, pumps, blowers and exhaust fans. - Maintain an organized work area and properly
care for assigned tools and equipment in preparation for performing work orders. - Perform pick-up and delivery duties as
directed. - Inventory and inspect lawn and snow removal supplies to maintain appropriate stock levels.
- Operate College
vehicles and perform routine vehicle maintenance. - Follow all applicable OSHA regulations, safety procedures, and college policies.
Operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and other maintenance equipment safely. - Provide courteous and professional customer
service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Working knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods and practices used in building construction, repair and maintenance
work. - Working knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment involved in mechanical equipment maintenance.
- Working knowledge
of occupational hazards and safe work practices. - Ability to understand and carry out work from oral and written
instructions. - Ability to move furniture and equipment.
- Ability to recognize malfunctions in mechanical
equipment. - Ability to use various tools and equipment to perform intricate building and equipment maintenance and
repairs. - Ability to work under varying conditions in dusty, hot or cold areas.
- Ability to use personal computers,
spreadsheets, word processing and maintenance management systems. - Ability to establish and maintain effective public and working
relationships. - Ability to interact with diverse populations.
Education & Experience:
- High school
diploma or GED. - Specialized technical training required in one of the following areas; building construction systems,
mechanical/electrical systems, heating, ventilating, air conditioning desired. - Three years of work experience involving trades work
or general repairs and maintenance to buildings. - Relevant post high school training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis to
meet the work experience requirement.
