Job Summary

IU Dining and Hospitality is looking for highly committed individuals interested in gaining valuable
supervisory experience by joining the IU Dining and Hospitality organization as a Part-Time Shift Supervisor. In this role, a person in this
role will have the opportunity to execute management responsibilities related to running a successful shift which includes directing
part-time staff, assisting with and monitoring standards of food preparation, stocking product, operating a POS register and maintaining
sanitation and appearance.



Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Assists in the distribution of labor in the dining
    unit, trains part-time dining staff, monitors quality of product and services and is responsible for opening and closing the facility as
    needed.
  • Works under the direct supervision of the dining unit management team and certified sous chef (or designated culinary leader
    where a sous chef is not assigned).
  • Assists in coordinating the placement of part-time staff.
  • Trains entry-level, part-time
    staff in the performance of their jobs and duties while ensuring that proper sanitation procedures, serving methods, and guest service
    standards are followed.
  • Monitors work performance of part-time staff for quality, accuracy, and completeness to ensure these meet
    department needs and standards.
  • Works to promote part-time employee development and growth.
  • Assists with the counting of
    weekly and monthly inventory.
  • Responds to and resolves guest complaints and concerns in order to maintain positive guest
    relations.
  • Works alongside front-line staff to meet operational needs in cases of short staffing or high-volume service
    periods.


Qualifications


EDUCATION


Required

  • General knowledge at the
    high school level


WORK EXPERIENCE


Required

  • Experience as an IU Dining part-time
    employee for 10 consecutive weeks from date of hire; OR
  • Comparable experience outside of IU dining

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES


Required

  • Food Safety (ServSafe Manager) certification within 180
    days from date of hire


SKILLS


Required

  • Knowledge of institutional food preparation
    equipment operation and maintenance
  • Knowledge and practice of department standards for personal hygiene, health and safety and
    uniform wear
  • Knowledge of standards as described in employee handbooks and department postings
  • Ability to understand and
    follow instructions and ability to read and interpret recipes, worksheets, and menus
  • Strong communication
    skills

Working Conditions / Demands

This position requires tasks typically associated with back-of-the-house
food service work and cleaning/ware washing. It involves periods of both sedentary work and times of frequent movement about the workspace.
Using commercial kitchen equipment and tools, moving supplies weighing from 20 – 50 pounds, and effective communication skills are
necessary. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in
peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. This role also will work indoors around both hot and
cold temperatures and loud noises. This role involves handling meat and plant-based food products as well as a variety of ingredients that
may include some or all of the top 9 allergens in the preparation of menu items and during the course of cleaning and ware-washing tasks.
The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$15.75 per hour


Work Hours

The
incumbent will work at least 16 hours per week; hours may include weekend shifts; position is capped at 29 hours per week.
