Qualifications Required

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, or other related field; or formal writing experience paired with a Master’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.
  • One year of high school or college level writing coach, tutoring, or teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong English writing, speaking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of writing center theory.
  • Ability to communicate writing concepts to students, including but not limited to content development, sentence structure, APA & MLA formatting, grammar, mechanics, etc.
  • Ability to work and communicate with a diverse student population.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs, databases, and other computer programs or online media platforms.
  • A strong commitment to helping Central Community College students succeed.
  • Ability to work successfully as a team with Central Community College faculty and staff.


General Summary

The writing coach will:

  • Work with students virtually or in-person on any writing, speech, or reading assignment.
  • Work with students to build writing, speech, and/or reading skills.
  • Follow Academic Success Center writing coach & center policies.
  • Meet & work individually with students and/or in small groups.
  • Select or develop materials and coaching strategies to assist with meeting each student’s unique needs.
  • Provide writing and/or reading technique sessions/workshops for students and/or groups.
  • Track student participation and progress in the Academic Success Center.
  • Prepare reports and coordinate scheduling.
  • Assist with Academic Success Center activities.

Essential Functions:


  • Meet with students both in-person and virtually for one-on-one or small group sessions. A minimum of 75% in-person work time on campus is required.
  • Provide writing technique sessions for classes and student groups.
  • Track student data in approved CCC software.
  • Market writing coach & other ASC services on campus, in classrooms, and with students.
  • Assist with the general oversight of the ASC as needed.
  • Assist with ASC activities, events, and functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
