Summary of Job
Duties:
The Physics Library Supervisor, under general direction of the department director, will coordinate and oversee the
day-to-day operations, maintenance, and space management of the Physics Library. This position is responsible for hiring, training,
supervising, and evaluating work-study and part-time staff; preparing departmental schedules and ensuring that adequate coverage is provided
(some on-call time may be required). This position is expected to develop and maintain a working knowledge of library collections and
resources to provide reference services to students, faculty, and community patrons with basic and in-depth information queries. This
position may assist with or give small group training or presentations to students or other potential patrons. This position performs
circulation and course reserve functions, including shelving, filing, and processing library materials; maintains library-related equipment;
conducts supply ordering and problem reporting; manages the physic department’s faculty publication lists; and collects and reports library
and material use statistics regularly. The Physics Library Supervisor also coordinates with their department director and the Physics Office
on special departmental events, resources, and requests. Evening or weekend hours may be occasionally required. Reports to the Director of
Experiential Learning & Physics Library.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability
to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with
others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- The formal education equivalent of a
bachelor’s degree
Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications.
- At least two years of
experience providing front-facing customer service in a professional work setting - At least one year of professional supervisory or
leadership experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least one year of formal work experience in a library
setting - Experience with processing and managing library course reserves
- Experience using Ex Libris’ Alma/Primo Integrated
Library System or another comparable library integrated system - Experience using Springshare products, especially LibAnswers, LibCal,
LibGuides, and LibStaffer - At least two years of supervisory and/or leadership experience

Abilities:
- Ability to train and supervise others effectively fostering a respectful, positive environment for direct
reports - Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative and welcoming environment
- Ability to engage in intelligent
risk-taking and self-start with minimal supervision - Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal
relationships - Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Excellent customer service skills with strong
commitment to high quality service - Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
