Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Planner Estimator for the Department of Transportation Services (DOTS). The position initiates, plans, and coordinates work orders for the repair, maintenance, changes and additions to the University Facilities.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Maintains liaison with the department facilities coordinators, discussing individual problems and request with heads of all University departments.
- Provides a liaison to the campus community for getting facilities maintenance work done.
- Ensures service call work is accomplished in an appropriate time frame and that feedback is provided to requester.
- Ensures that preventive maintenance on assigned facilities is being completed in an effective and timely manner.
- Maintains a current and accurate inventory of needed work to maintain parking lots/decks up to standard.
- Provide timely estimating services to the campus community for the evaluation of project requests.
- Coordinates with Grounds/Custodial Supervisors as needed to correct or improve services for assigned facilities.
- Reviews new construction and alteration design drawings and specifications

Mid Range Salary: 84393.980
Maximum Salary: 100509.480

Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in institutional project work or maintenance field.
Certifications/Licenses
- Valid driver’s license
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must have the ability to read blueprints, write specifications, and develop project costs.
- Good communication, organizational, and customer service skills; and computer literacy in industry standard software are also required.
- Must be able to develop project specifications, write project justifications, and develop project costs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ten years’ experience in building trades with minimum of five years’ extensive experience in mechanical/electrical repair and maintenance field.
