Job Summary



The Plant Maintenance Mechanic will work on the maintenance, repairs, and modifications of the central utility plant and all its equipment (i.e. chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, etc.).



Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment in the plant in an efficient, safe, and effective manner.
  • Perform repairs on all equipment in the plant in an efficient, safe, and effective manner.
  • Make any necessary modifications on all equipment in the plant in an efficient, safe, and effective manner.
  • Walk utility tunnels to change light bulbs and look for any issues with the steam, condensate return, and chill water systems.
  • Keep necessary inventory on tools, fittings, and supplies for all plant equipment.
  • Be available to return to plant on emergency situations with no more than 2 hours’ notice.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • This position requires you to have and maintain a Texas Class “C” Operator’s Driver’s License and three (3) years of acceptable driving history.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Knowledge of basic computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to drive UTA vehicle.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, bend, stand, sit, kneel, and squat, as well as climb stairs and ladders to perform work duties.

Workplace and Eligibility Conditions

  • Conditions do involve exposure to all weather elements.
  • Must be able to work off ladders, scaffolding, and tops/roofs of buildings.
  • Working conditions are considered acceptable but occasionally involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as biohazards, toxic lab chemicals, poisonous gases, dust, dirt, high voltage, and the need to work in confined spaces, extreme cold or hot, and all-weather conditions.
