Job Duties:

The POSO Senior Business Partner for Academic Colleges and Administrative Units (Senior Business Partner-Academic) provides strategic leadership for a team of Business Partners supporting academic colleges/schools and administrative areas within a large, research-intensive higher education institution. This role serves as a trusted advisor to the Provost, deans, and other department leaders, ensuring human resources strategies advance institutional priorities related to teaching and research excellence, workforce success, and operational sustainability.



Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Partnerships within the Department for People Operations, Success, and Opportunity (POSO), the Senior Business Partner-Academic leads and integrates a cohort of POSO Business Partners who operate as embedded partners to assigned portfolios. Consistent with POSOs partnership-driven and service-oriented operating model, the role translates University human resources strategy into unit-level action while strengthening consistency, transparency, and shared accountability across colleges, schools, and administrative units within the portfolio. This position plays a critical role in advancing POSOs mission to enable people, teams, and leaders to thrive through thoughtful, strategic people practices within a shared-services people operations framework.

Key Responsibilities Include:


  • Translating University, POSO, and Partnership priorities to create action and engagement plans for the academic portfolio (20%)
  • Overseeing the quality, consistency, compliance, and accuracy of POSO Partnerships service delivery within the academic portfolio and serving with delegated signatory authority as the senior approver for hiring and other personnel actions (25%)
  • Leading, developing, and coaching a high-performing team of business partners focused on operational excellence, consultative engagement, well-being, and accountability (25%)
  • Collaborating internally with POSO directors and specialists and externally with the Office for Faculty Affairs and other areas across campus to anticipate and respond to emerging workforce trends impacting higher education (20%)
  • Lead the development of performance measures, data-informed insights, and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen partnership effectiveness and service delivery across portfolios (10%)

Minimum Education/Experience:


Bachelors degree and four years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:


  • Demonstrated experience in strategic workforce planning
  • Analytical skills, with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret complex datasets to generate actionable insights and data-driven recommendations
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Expertise in employee relations, organizational consulting, and change leadership
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and ethics
  • Experience in problem-solving and thorough knowledge of HR procedures, policies, and best practices
  • Experience using HR systems (including but not limited to Banner, PeopleAdmin, Salesforce, etc.) and ability to learn new technical systems, when necessary
  • Experience in higher education or similarly complex, regulated organizations
