Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY: Tutor biology and chemistry at SVSU’s Center for Academic Achievement. The
primary responsibility of the Center for Academic Achievement (CAA) is to help students become more academically successful through
one-on-one and small-group tutoring.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, and
supervising Biology and Chemistry tutors - Collaborate with CAA Director, Biology Chemistry Department Staff, and other SVSU
stakeholders - Be familiar with syllabi/assignments/degree requirements in the content area
- Demonstrate effective tutoring
habits - Mentor tutors
- Tutor as needed
- Assist with the embedded tutoring program
- Manage tutor work schedules
(Excel, Trac Cloud, MS Word) - Assist with tutor training as necessary
- Develop presentations as necessary
- Assist
tutors with presentation development - Appear at promotional events as necessary
- Assist with CAA Marketing
- Handle
issues on tutoring floor (excessive noise, inappropriate behavior, tutor/student concerns) - Troubleshoot issues at the CAA front desk
or with CAA technology - Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General supervision is
received from the Director or the Center for Academic Achievement
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree completed
by date of hire. - Proficiency in course content for 100-300 level Science courses
- Strong oral communication and interpersonal
skills - Strong writing/critical thinking ability
- Ability to work independently, find resources, answer questions, and solve
problems - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software quickly.
- Experience and ability to
positively interact with all members of the campus community - Availability weekdays between 10:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Ability to
perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s
degree with a concentration in Biology/Chemistry. - Teaching/Tutoring experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Duties
are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions. - All work associated with this role must be performed within
the state of Michigan.
