Summary

Meets with students individually or in small groups to provide academic support related to course content, course-related readings and course-related written assignments so students can successfully complete their coursework; as well as provides instruction, teaching and guidance in the area of academic success skills

Essential Job Functions


  • Tutors students on specific course content, course-related readings and course-related written assignments
  • Tutors students in the area of academic success skills (e.g. learning strategies, time management, etc.)
  • Coordinates tutoring goals with advisers, academic counselors and faculty to effectively meet student needs
  • Attends tutor training sessions and staff meetings, as applicable
  • Administers individualized tests to students with accommodations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a related field of study (e.g., statistics, economics, engineering, or other sciences requiring math proficiency)
  • Ability to tutor subjects such as, but not limited to, freshman algebra, math for liberal arts majors, precalculus and statistics
  • Ability to work daytime hours on weekdays and work on occasional weekends for special events

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience tutoring or teaching students
  • Proficiency in statistics

Qualified candidates must live or relocate to live within a daily commuting distance of the Providence Campus location upon hire.
