Description

The Rivier University Department of Public Safety is a progressive agency that
provides a comprehensive service to the University community. The Department is committed to the protection of life and property, the

part of the larger Student Experience division at Rivier University.

Duties and
Responsibilities


  • Patrol University buildings and grounds to prevent or respond to incidents of: vandalism; fire
    or fire hazards; disorderly conduct; and violations of the University’s traffic, safety, security, and other regulations. Ensure that
    buildings are locked and unlocked as assigned. Respond to physical plant alarms.
  • Issue tickets for campus parking violations.
  • Respond to complaints/calls related to possible criminal activity, investigate incidents and/or involve local law enforcement
    authorities when appropriate.
  • Investigate complaints made by faculty, staff, students, or visitors on campus.
  • Investigate traffic accidents on campus.
  • Respond to calls involving medical emergencies. Administer first aid, CPR and/or call
    for additional assistance as needed.
  • Report security incidents and unusual or hazardous conditions to appropriate officials.
  • Call for and assist local fire and rescue personnel as needed.
  • Assist area police with investigations on campus.
  • Provide security services such as parking and traffic direction, crowd control, for special events. Set up traffic/parking barricades
    as needed.
  • Issue IDs and assist with access control.
  • Assist with the oversite of the University van usage to include
    inspections, checking in/out and the certification of drivers when needed.
  • Be available for and attend monthly training.
  • Document calls for service through the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and the reporting system.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Full- time hours are 32-40 hours per week on a schedule to meet the
University’s needs. May be scheduled nights and weekends.


Travel: None.


Qualifications

  • High school education plus two to three years of relevant work experience,
    including one year of directly related security or law enforcement training or experience, or a combination of education and experience from
    which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Relevant first aid training, with knowledge of CPR desirable.
  • Valid driver’s license. Must pass a background check and motor vehicle records check.
  • Physical ability to carry out job duties.
    Physical demands of the job include: walking, bending, sittng, lifting (25 lb.) and driving.

  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals, in some instances under stressful, dangerous and/or emergency
    conditions.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated integrity.
