About the Opportunity
The Slate & Student Success Data Administrator serves as the primary system administrator and functional expert for the College’s Slate Student Success CRM instance, while also leading data projects that support student retention and success initiatives. This position is responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and ongoing optimization of Slate to support the needs of Student Success & Engagement and other College partners. This position will work with College partners to develop predictive retention models to support the needs of the Crest-to-Career project, and works closely with colleagues in Enrollment Management and Academic Affairs on Slate projects to align system capabilities and data initiatives with institutional goals and to ensure data-driven decision making that improves student outcomes.
The Crest to Career project is a 5-year project support by a federal Title III Strengthening Institutions Program grant. By supporting further Slate implementation and the development of data analysis tools, this position strengthens the College’s enrollment and fiscal stability through improved data access, information sharing, and data decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Slate system administration (75%)
- Serve as the primary Slate Captain for the Slate Student Success instance, maintaining overall system configuration and ensuring platform health.
- Build and maintain forms, populations, queries, rules, dashboards, reports, and portals within Slate.
- Design and implement automated workflows, such as those to support advising outreach, case management, and student communications. Apply process improvement techniques to identify manual workflows that can be replaced with sustainable, system-driven solutions.
- Partner with Student Success, Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Residential Life, and other campus units to translate operational needs into scalable Slate configurations and data solutions.
- Design and deliver training programs for Slate users across student success units, including onboarding sessions, user guides, and workshops.
- Act as the primary point of contact for day-to-day Slate support requests from functional users, investigating issues and implementing resolutions.
- Manage user access, roles, and permissions in compliance with institutional data governance and FERPA requirements.
- Oversee lifecycle planning for platform upgrades, new modules, and long-term system evolution.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot technical and functional issues, implementing solutions or escalating as appropriate.
- Document all system configurations, processes, and procedural changes in an administrative manual.
- Stay current on Slate releases, new features, and community best practices, assessing their relevance and value to the institution.
- Coordinate with IT colleagues to maintain and troubleshoot integrations between Slate and Jenzabar and other enterprise systems.
- Participate in committees and related working groups as assigned to ensure consistent data standards and stewardship across systems.
- Build and maintain operational reports and dashboards that provide actionable insights to student success leadership and front-line staff.
- Champion data quality across the Slate Student Success instance, establishing and enforcing data entry standards and validation rules.
Predictive Analytics & Data Projects (25%)
- Partner with Information Technology, the Registrar’s Office, and Institutional Research to develop, test, and refine predictive models for student retention using data from Jenzabar and the Slate Student Success instance.
- Coordinate the extraction, integration, and validation of data feeds between Jenzabar and Slate to support predictive modeling.
- Translate model outputs (e.g., risk scores, retention indicators) into actionable Slate workflows, populations, and communication triggers for advisors and student success staff.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify new data sources and variables that could improve the accuracy and usefulness of predictive models.
- Monitor and report on the performance and impact of predictive models, recommending refinements based on outcomes data.
- Serve as a liaison between Student Success, IT, and Institutional Research on data projects related to retention, persistence, and graduation analytics.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Statistics, Higher Education, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Experience
- Minimum of 3-4 years of hands-on experience building or administering Technolutions Slate or a comparable CRM platform, including building queries, forms, workflows, and portals.
- Experience working in or closely with a higher education student success, academic advising, or student affairs environment.
- Demonstrated experience with requirements gathering, business process analysis, and translating stakeholder needs into system solutions.
- Experience with data analysis, reporting tools, and relational database concepts, including working with ERP data (Jenzabar experience preferred).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of Slate CRM administrative functions, including populations, rules, forms, queries, reports, and communication workflows.
- Familiarity with ERP integration processes (data imports/exports, sync troubleshooting), ideally with Jenzabar.
- Working knowledge of statistical or predictive modeling concepts as applied to student retention (e.g., regression, risk scoring), or strong aptitude and willingness to develop this skill set.
- Knowledge of FERPA and applicable data security and privacy standards for student information.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Self-motivated and proactive in identifying opportunities to improve system performance and user experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience specifically with Slate for Student Success (as distinct from Slate for Admissions).
- Direct experience with Jenzabar as a data source for reporting or analytics.
- Hands-on experience building or supporting predictive retention models or similar institutional analytics projects.
- Familiarity with statistical software or languages for data analysis and modeling.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, Liquid Markup, JavaScript, or SQL for advanced Slate customization.
- Experience with Business Intelligence platforms such as Cognos, Power BI, or Tableau.
