Job Summary/Basic Function:

Providing individualized assistance to students in writing and reading as needed; Level I Coaches must have completed course work with a minimum grade of “B” at a level higher than the coaching assignment. Level II Coaches must have a bachelor’s degree or coursework in the related coaching area as deemed appropriate by the Director, Writing Center.

Minimum Qualifications:

To complete your application and be considered for this position, you will need to upload four(4) documents corresponding to 1-4 below.

1. Academic Writing Sample

Please upload a sample of your academic writing that is between 3-5 pages long (minimum). This could be a paper that you have written for any class here at BC or elsewhere. Please do NOT submit a narrative or a creative piece.

2. Explanation of Academic Writing Sample

Please upload a document which explains (1) why you chose this Academic Writing Sample and (2) how you would revise/change this sample in the future (250 words/1-2 pages).

3. Statement of Interest

Write and upload a brief statement (250 words/1-2 pages) that explains why you would like to be a Brazosport College Writing Center (BC WC) consultant. Consider the following points: How does being a BC WC consultant complement your educational and/or professional goals? What will be your greatest challenge in this job?

4. Student Writing Feedback

Read the student essay by clicking the link below. If you worked with this student, what advice would you give? Since a Consulting session only lasts 45 minutes, which issues would you want to address first and why? If you had time, which issues would you address afterward? Why? Make your response as thorough and thoughtful as possible. You can print the essay, write responses, and then scan and upload or you can save as a Word document, make your responses, and upload to your application.
