Job Description


JOB OBJECTIVE

The Teaching Assistant, Computer
Information Science supports faculty and students within the Computer Information Science program areas by maintaining the college’s
laboratories and workshops. The incumbent’s scope of work includes the installation, demonstration, maintenance and troubleshooting of
equipment and facilities. This is a hands-on role which will have the Teaching Assistant working closely with faculty and students in the
laboratory. The incumbent sets up the lab in preparation for experiments and will include up to 10 hours per week of instructional
duties.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS


  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information
    Technology, Engineering or other relevant discipline is required
  • A Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline is
    desirable
  • Membership to a relevant internationally recognized professional association is highly desirable
  • Current advanced
    industry certifications such as Microsoft, Cisco, Security/Networking, Server and/or Hardware are preferred

SKILLS AND
EXPERIENCE

  • Preference is given to candidate with at least 3 years of progressive hands-on experience in hardware and
    software support
  • Ability to understand the queries of customers and direct them to the appropriate resource
  • Practical
    experience with PC and OS support troubleshooting and implementation
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving
    skills
  • Experience in a complex networking environment with CISCO equipment is preferred
  • A high degree of computer literacy
    and demonstrated ability to integrate technology in the workplace
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated
    competency to interact with people at all levels of the organization
  • Good customer service and organizational skills
  • The
    ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment
  • The ability to cope with pressure in a positive manner
    while working to deadlines within a busy and demanding environment
  • A demonstrated willingness to engage in professional development
    activities in order to improve current skills and acquire new skills, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the
    organization
  • Previous teaching assistant experience is preferred


LANGUAGE

  • Fluency in written and
    spoken English is essential
  • Knowledge of Arabic is desirable but not a requirement

DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides timely lab support to faculty, staff and students
  • Maintains a schedule of preventative
    maintenance for all equipment and keeps adequate manuals and maintenance logs for equipment and parts
  • Observes and reinforces safety
    and housekeeping procedures and protocol within the lab
  • Maintains systems and procedures to track borrowed equipment and
    tools
  • Recommends solutions to continuously improve lab operations
  • Controls the distribution of consumable materials and
    ensures adequate inventory levels for supplies within the lab
  • May assemble new or modified equipment such as servers, workstations,
    routers, switches and systems
  • Receives, installs, maintains and assists with ordering of lab equipment and
    supplies
  • Interacts regularly with suppliers regarding the purchases of new equipment
  • Demonstrates the use of equipment
    within the lab
  • Provides teaching assistance to CIS Faculty during laboratory sessions
  • Assists in the development and
    maintenance of teaching materials
  • Supports faculty and students in the design, planning and execution of student projects as
    required
  • Performs teaching duties as required
  • Contributes to the development of the HCT by observing and implementing
    College and system-wide policies and procedures, and by participating in extra-curricular activities and community events
  • Develops
    an awareness of and respect for the customs and cultures of HCT students and employees
  • Travels to other HCT colleges to attend
    meetings, workshops
