Position Description
Safely
performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures,
buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of
initiative and independent judgment.

About the Department and/or College

Major/Essential Functions
Electrical Systems
Installation, Maintenance & Repair


  • Performs skilled work on electrical equipment and systems including panels, breakers,
    relays, circuits, transformers, motors, lighting systems, and sump pumps.
  • Troubleshoots electrical faults, identifies root cause,
    and performs corrective repairs to restore safe and reliable operation.
  • Interprets and applies wiring diagrams, schematics, and
    blueprints to plan and execute work effectively.

Wiring, Power Distribution & Code Compliance

  • Installs
    and maintains electrical wiring, conduits, outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, and GFCI/AFCI devices.
  • Conducts load assessments,
    circuit tracing, and panel work to maintain balanced and efficient power distribution.
  • Ensures all installations, repairs, and
    modifications follow NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and departmental electrical safety standards.

Preventative Maintenance,
Documentation & Team Coordination


  • Performs preventive maintenance and scheduled inspections to extend equipment life and
    prevent operational failures.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of work orders, system updates, repairs, materials, and maintenance
    logs.
  • Works collaboratively with the Foreperson, other trades, and contractors; communicates status, hazards, and material needs to
    support effective workflow management.

Fire Alarm & Life Safety Systems

  • Conducts troubleshooting and
    repair of fire alarm and suppression systems.
  • Coordinates inspections, testing, and repairs with contractors, insurance
    representatives, and fire marshal officials.

Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as
may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed
journeyperson.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in commercial/institutional electrical installation, maintenance,
    and repair, including work on panels, circuits, motors, lighting, relays, and control components.
  • Able to read and apply
    schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams; strong diagnostic skills with ability to identify root cause and determine effective repair
    methods.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and safe electrical practices including lockout/tagout, arc-flash protection, grounding,
    bonding, conduit installation, and GFCI/AFCI requirements.
  • Skilled in evaluating electrical loads, power distribution capacity, and
    system reliability, using test instruments such as multimeters, meggers, voltage testers, and circuit tracers.
  • Strong organization
    and teamwork skills, with the ability to prioritize work, adapt to changing needs, and communicate effectively with the Foreperson, peers,
    and contractors.


Pay Range
$21.39 – $27.84 – $34.23
