Broad Function

This full-time, temporary appointment from 06/22/2026-07/31/2026 is part of a federally funded grant program designed to assist eligible students in grades 9-12 develop the skills and motivation necessary to graduate from high school and enroll and succeed in higher education. Upward Bound serves high school students from income eligible families and from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree.



Major Responsibilities

The Tutor Mentor will be responsible to:


  • Tutor Mentor are expected to live in college housing during the length of the summer program, and provide supervision to students during the week, beginning Monday’s at 7:00 am, and ending by approx. 4:00 pm on Friday afternoons.
  • Ensure the well-being of approx. 40 residential students in grades 10-12, with regards to health, safety, morale, discipline, and interpersonal relationships within the group.
  • Provide elective and recreational activities, field trips, and residence life programming.
  • Provide tutoring and supplemental instruction to participants.
  • Act as a Teacher’s Assistant in selected classes.
  • Attend all field trips, cultural events, college visits and community service events.
  • Appropriately work with student participants to encourage participation, enhance college preparation and maintain program academic and behavioral standards.
  • Transport students to Job Shadow Placements and cultural activities around the community.
  • Attend Tutor Mentor training (6/22-6/23/26)
  • Attend daily and weekly staff debriefing meetings.
  • Assist in the preparation for the program closing ceremony (7/30/26)
  • Attend a final program debrief and close out (7/31/26)


Required Skills

Enrolled undergraduate or graduate student who has met a high academic standard of a 3.0 cumulative college GPA with 45+ credits earned is preferred. The ability to facilitate workshops, and have experience working with students who have been traditionally underrepresented preferred. Valid driver’s license preferred.



Educational Requirements


Certification, Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree preferred.
Compensation


$3,600 + free on campus housing for the length of the program + free meals Monday breakfast through Friday lunch + opportunity to attend cultural events at no cost.
