Description

The Texas Tech University Postgraduate Intercollegiate Athletics Internship is intended to provide on-the-job learning
experiences for college graduates interested in pursuing a career in various areas of intercollegiate athletics. This program can last 12-36
months.

Future leaders will gain experience in using principles such as:
* Applying a standard of ethics to policy and
administrative context
* Evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of current operations within area of assignment
* Communicating
relevant information and ideas
* Managing university resources to achieve organizational goals

Major/Essential Functions
The Learning Assistance Program (LAP) serves as a
resourceful support system to aid in the academic development of student-athletes. Our comprehensive program addresses individual learning
needs and concerns, fostering independent learning and skill development both inside and outside the classroom. We are dedicated to
supporting student-athletes in their pursuit of academic excellence, personal growth, and professional development.

Specific
Expectation


  • Report directly to the Associate Director of the Learning Assistance Program.
  • Regularly communicate and
    collaborate with the Learning Assistance Program staff.
  • Provide appropriate communication as needed with Athletic Academic Advisors
    regarding students on caseload.
  • Work independently with a caseload of student-athletes to enhance effective learning strategies,
    interventions, and academic skills through weekly meetings to improve the performance and achievement of student-athletes with learning
    challenges and foster autonomous learners.
  • Assist with intake assessments and evaluations, such as the LAP Questionnaire and
    administering the Academic Skills Inventory.
  • Compile Individual Academic Plans by developing a comprehensive understanding of
    specific learning disabilities and the various strategies and interventions that will support academic growth and development when
    requested.
  • Collaborate with necessary service providers, such as Clinical Sports Psychology, to ensure comprehensive
    support.
  • Assist with developing and implementing innovative programming for academic support to enhance educational opportunities
    for student-athletes.
  • Create, plan, and execute intentional programming or workshops that serve student-athletes as
    needed.
  • Assist in Tutor Orientation, Tutor Training, professional development, and semester evaluation of tutorial
    staff.
  • Serve on MSC committees as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate and contribute to a culture of high academic integrity through
    consistent practice.
  • Report any incidents (academic fraud, misconduct, and disturbances)
  • Comply with all NCAA, Big 12, and
    Texas Tech University rules, regulations, and policies.

General Expectations

  • Frequent communication with
    the Marsha Sharp Center for Student-Athletes staff.
  • Communicate with Academic Advisors to discuss student-athlete
    progress/development.
  • Provide academic skill/strategy development and learning techniques to a caseload of student-athletes at
    various learning levels.
  • Learn the Screening/Testing process:
    • LAP Questionnaire & Learning Profile
    • Registration with
      Student Disability Services
    • Review different types of learning accommodations
    • Project Management

  • Attend
    all Athletic Department, MSC, and LAP meetings as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned by the LAP staff.

Required
Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and previous experience with
collegiate or professional athletics.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or a current graduate student enrolled
    in a master’s degree program in education, sports administration, counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience in collegiate athletic
    academic support, higher education, teaching, or related field.
  • Educational background and/or tutoring
    experience.
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication, organization, time management,
    critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Knowledge of
    Learning Disabilities.
  • Knowledge of education regulations (FERPA, HIPAA, IDEA, ADA, 504, etc.).
  • Ability to work overtime,
    including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
