Job Summary:
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible
for ensuring the reliability, security, performance, and recoverability of mission-critical databases that support academic, administrative,
and research operations. This role is responsible for the oversight of data flows into the reporting environment to support operational
needs, with a primary focus of Oracle database administration hosted both on-premise and in the cloud. In addition to core database
administration, the DBA performs installations, upgrades, and software-level administration for ERP database packages and departmental
enterprise applications, including those modules running on Tomcat or other supported servers. The role focuses on maintaining operational
continuity for systems managed by the Enterprise Information Systems department. Collaboration with IT teams and functional departments is
essential to support data integrity, compliance, and integration with third-party systems. This position also plays a key role in advancing
data governance and supporting analytics initiatives across campus.
Please note: This is an on-site, in-office
position. Candidates must be able to commute to Jacksonville, Alabama daily.
Job Duties and
Responsibilities
- Administer, maintain, and upgrade the University’s Oracle databases in an on-prem Red Hat Linux
environment. - Perform routine database maintenance, including backups, patching, monitoring, and performance tuning.
- Support ERP system upgrades and manage related database activities.
- Install, upgrade, and configure enterprise applications
managed by the Enterprise Information Systems department, including ERP modules, Tomcat deployments, operational reporting software,
associated scheduling services, and other departmental applications. - Monitor and maintain the University’s cloud reporting
environment, including data ingestion, freeze data, custom database objects, jobs, and configurations. - Manage database security,
including user accounts and access controls. - Work closely with system administrators and IT teams to monitor, troubleshoot, and
maintain integrations between databases and enterprise applications.
Required Minimum
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience with Oracle database administration in an enterprise environment.
- Expertise in a
variety of programming/scripting languages. - Experience working in Red Hat Linux and Windows Server environments.
- Knowledge
of enterprise application administration, including Tomcat deployments. - Experience managing database security, user accounts, and
recovery operations. - Experience performing database backups, restores, and performance tuning.
- Strong troubleshooting and
problem-solving skills. - Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Understanding of ERP system architecture and operational support requirements.
Preferred
Qualifications:
- Experience supporting ERP systems (e.g., Banner or similar).
- Familiarity with enterprise
operational reporting software and departmental application suites. - Experience in performing software-level administration and
upgrades for enterprise applications. - Knowledge of best practices for databases and application security in a higher education
environment. - 5+ years of Oracle database administration.
