About MCC

Metropolitan Community College is the oldest public institution of higher learning in Kansas City, Missouri, founded in 1915 as the Kansas City Polytechnic Institute. The Junior College of Kansas City, as it was known starting in 1919, was one of the first schools in the country to award an associate degree. Today, MCC offers 125 associate degree and certificate programs.



Metropolitan Community College comprises five campuses on the Missouri side of the Greater Kansas City area 47 major buildings and about 550 acres in all: MCC-Blue River, located in Independence, Missouri; MCC-Longview located in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, MCC-Maple Woods located in the Northland of Kansas City, Missouri; MCC-Online and MCC-Penn Valley, located in Midtown Kansas City, Missouri.

MCC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. In addition, several programs have specific accreditations as well.

Job Summary

Incumbents facilitate and administer tests and exams for students.

Essential Functions


  • Schedule, prepare the facility for, and administer exams, including placement, make-up, high school equivalency, distance education, accommodation, and other exams; work may involve contacting instructors, responding to testing center and information requests, receiving and processing exams, and ensuring that exams are in the appropriate format and that students comply with college policies and procedures
  • Assist students with understanding testing requirements and interpreting test results, as well as testing center protocols/procedures; respond to inquiries from students, instructors, the general public, and other individuals, via phone, email, or in person; and provides referrals when necessary
  • Perform administrative and office maintenance duties, to include scheduling testing appointments; maintaining the department calendar; troubleshooting system or equipment malfunctions; directing issues to appropriate departments or agencies to ensure issue resolution; opening and closing the center maintaining and cleaning computer and testing stations; and ensuring that testing and applicable inventory is replenished
  • Document and record tests, and information related to testing irregularities and eligibility for testing material usage; and print, file, and/or email exams to appropriate instructors, or other personnel
  • Review and maintain student and faculty records, rosters, and other documentation, to verify applicable information and ensure accurate and timely documentation
  • Coordinate with student services staff, disability support services staff, faculty, and other internal/ external staff, departments, or agencies to communicate testing procedure- and service-related information, and facilitate departmental goals and operations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Associates degree* or two-year technical certificate
  • Three (3) year of customer service or related experience

*Minimum Education Qualification can be substituted with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

  • Knowledge of test proctoring and administration procedures and practices
  • Knowledge of scheduling methods

Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require grasping, hearing, keyboarding, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
