Position Information



The full salary range for the Custodial Services Supervisor is
$53,100.00 – $89,700.00 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $63,800.00 annually. We base salary offers on a
variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. The
Custodial Services Supervisor is a UCR Facilities Environmental Resource Services team member, supervising day-to-day custodial operations
to ensure a clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment for campus community members. Under the direction of the Custodial Services
Manager, the Custodial Services Supervisor provides direct supervision and guidance to a team of Lead and Senior Custodians and manages
routine and emergency cleaning, disinfecting, sanitizing, and general custodial maintenance of campus facilities including but not limited
to classrooms, offices, research labs, meeting spaces, and restrooms. This role is responsible for scheduling, training, and coordinating
the custodial services team; facilitating procurement of custodial supplies and equipment; managing custodial-related emergencies; and
coordinating the locking and unlocking of various campus buildings. Ensures safety procedures and protocols are maintained in all facets of
custodial operations. Provides operational support to other Facilities Services units as necessary. Applicants must have current work
authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for
staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining
agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional
requirements.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
    certification.


Experience

  • Experience with personnel management, including staffing, hiring, training,
    disciplinary action, termination, and performance management.
  • 4 – 7 years of related experience.
  • Experience with
    collective bargaining units.
  • Previous supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Bilingual English & Spanish

Minimum Requirements

Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations. Basic computer
applications skills. Ability to ensure that custodial staff provide timely, accurate and appropriate response to routine custodial issues as
well as emergency response to more urgent situations. Ability to work varied shifts and schedules (early morning, morning, evening or
graveyard shifts; weekends and holidays) as needed to accommodate campus needs and/or events. Ability to effectively communicate quality and
service standards, departmental policies, procedures, goals, and expectations to staff. Ability to motivate staff to provide the highest
level of service to campus constituents at all times. Ability to work with diverse populations. Ability to develop and maintain working
knowledge in the use and care of power equipment, hazardous materials, bio-hazardous materials and clean room policies and procedures.
Working knowledge and skill in effective interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other personnel. Verbal and written
communication skills in the English language, active listening, flexibility, critical thinking, multi-task and time management. Working
knowledge in custodial and housekeeping services. Working knowledge of and ability for decision making, reasoning, ability to develop
original ideas to solve problems, and perform operations analysis, and quality control analysis. Ability to operate University vehicles for
business and operational needs. Ability to work in conditions and environments with exposure to strong odors, chemicals, cleaning solvents,
paints, raw sewage, blood, and vomit.

Generic Scope

The Custodial Services
Supervisor is a UCR Facilities Environmental Resource Services team member, supervising day-to-day custodial operations to ensure a clean,
safe, and aesthetically pleasing environment for campus community members. Under the direction of the Custodial Services Manager, the
Custodial Services Supervisor provides direct supervision and guidance to a team of Lead and Senior Custodians and manages routine and
emergency cleaning, disinfecting, sanitizing, and general custodial maintenance of campus facilities including but not limited to
classrooms, offices, research labs, meeting spaces, and restrooms. This role is responsible for scheduling, training, and coordinating the
custodial services team; facilitating procurement of custodial supplies and equipment; managing custodial-related emergencies; and
coordinating the locking and unlocking of various campus buildings. Ensures safety procedures and protocols are maintained in all facets of
custodial operations. Provides operational support to other Facilities Services units as necessary.

Key
Responsibilities


  • Supervises the daily activities of custodial employees.
  • Provides direct leadership and guidance to
    custodial staff. Assigns shift schedules, work locations, work assignments and projects. May include the supervision of limited/temporary
    staff. Conducts assigned area inspections to ensure that work assignments are completed, and that quality cleaning, disinfecting,
    sanitizing, and service standards are followed and maintained.

  • Plans, organizes and directs routine custodial
    operations.
  • Directs and schedules work within assigned area. Addresses schedule changes (shift and/or work location) for absent
    staff members, coordinates transporting staff, and facilitates routine staff meetings. Schedules and coordinates routine and emergency pest
    control. Coordinates movement of custodial supplies and equipment throughout the campus. Effectively communicates information, orally and
    written, when managing all custodial related emergency and non-emergency calls or requests.

  • Trains and supervises the custodial
    staff to maintain an orderly, safe, and efficient cleaning operation.
  • Conducts routine safety meetings with staff in support of
    departmental health and safety programs/initiatives. Assists with the implementation of process improvements to provide a safe working
    environment. Manages and trains staff to ensure proper protocols for use of equipment, materials, supplies and cleaning products are adhered
    to. Cross trains custodial staff to perform a variety of custodial tasks. Ensures appropriate use of personnel protective equipment as
    necessary.

  • Maintains proper inventory needs and purchase inventory.
  • Establishes and maintains inventory records and cost
    control procedures. Responsible for the ordering, verifying, and receiving of all custodial related supplies and equipment; follows up with
    vendors to adjust, modify or cancel orders of supplies or equipment.

  • Responsible for performance management.
  • Effectively
    communicates and enforces departmental policies, procedures, goals and expectations to staff. Manages staff performance (development,
    coaching, feedback, disciplinary actions) when necessary and in consultation with Facilities Services Leadership and HR. Prepares and
    conducts annual performance evaluations with custodial staff.

  • Supervise building lock up schedules and security of assigned
    buildings.
  • Coordinates, schedules and supervises the locking and unlocking of buildings throughout the campus. Collaborates with
    UCPD to ensure the security of buildings on a daily basis.

  • Requires knowledge in the care and use of power
    equipment.
  • Facilitates the maintenance and repair of custodial equipment through vendors or by other Facilities Services units;
    performs troubleshooting and minor maintenance repairs on equipment as appropriate. Tests, evaluates, and initiates new cleaning methods and
    the use of new supplies or equipment. Provides guidance and proper training to staff on the care and use of equipment and materials,
    ensuring adherence to safety policies and procedures.

  • Enforces safety, hazardous materials and custodial policies and procedures
    are adhered to by the custodial staff.
  • Enforces bio-hazardous materials and equipment and clean room policies and procedures.
    Enforces proper handling and mixture of chemicals.

  • Maintains scheduling within prescribed budgetary guidelines.
  • Monitors
    and controls operational expenditures, in an assigned area of the campus, ensuring the budget guidelines are being met. Performs cost
    estimations and creates customer proposals for additional custodial services beyond the Service Level agreement, such as deep carpet
    cleaning, floor waxing, and detail cleaning. Maintains various project reports and cost estimates. Maintains record of work productivity in
    the work order system, inclusive of labor and material billing.

  • Adheres to rules, regulations, and guidance of Cal-OSHA, union
    contract (SX), and safety data sheets; consulting with upper management and/or HR as necessary. Responsible for payroll management of
    assigned staff by reviewing, editing, and submitting employee timesheets in accordance with established deadlines. Participates in search
    committees and assists with making hiring selections of job applicants; selects and hires staff and student workers.

  • Performs
    cleaning and general maintenance duties as needed; including but not limited to carpet cleaning, picking up of large amounts of water,
    sanitary cleanups, etc. Conducts specialized cleaning; scrubbing, stripping, and waxing of tile floors; operates buffers, vacuum cleaners
    and carpet shampooers, and extractors. Reports conditions for items requiring repair or replacement, or of potential safety hazards.
    Provides operational support to other Facilities Services units as necessary.
