BASIC PURPOSE
Hours Per week: Up to 25 hrs
Supplemental Instruction Assistants are academic support personnel who are attached to specific classes. They attend classes in order to get to know students and understand how the professor teaches. They are responsible for planning out of class review sessions in which they guide students through class material in a collaborative effort to learn material, discuss important concepts and strengthen study skills specific to that class and discipline
**This position requires the selected candidate to submit the PA State Police check, the Child Abuse Clearance, and the FBI Fingerprint check to HR prior to the first day of employment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Attend all classes for the discipline/subject in which student will be providing Supplemental Instruction
- Facilitate two review sessions a week
- Develop lesson plans as needed
- Develop and nurture rapport with instructor and students
- Attend any in service activities as required by Supplemental Instruction coordinator
- Complete and submit all required forms (attendance at midterm and end of semester, evaluations, questionnaires, and any other forms that may be required by the coordinator of supple
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
QUALIFICATIONS
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Successfully completed the course in which they will be a Supplemental Instruction Assistants with a B+ or better.
- Excellent communication skills
- Skilled at facilitating group interaction and problem solving
- Preferably recommendation by the instructor teaching the course in addition to a second instructor recommendation. If the instructor teaching the course does not have a recommendation then the applicant must have at least one recommendation from an instructor in the discipline/course in which they will be working.
