Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Accounting Manager II for The Office of the University Controller. Reporting to a Senior Manager in the University Controller’s Office, this position is responsible for the management and supervision of daily operations and performance of an accounting/financial functional unit.
This position performs general accounting activities that are complex and broad in nature, specializing in general ledger and project functions within the endowment and restricted gift areas to include the analysis and review of fifinancial data and reports, preparation of account analyses and assisting with the preparation/review of survey’s for both internal and external purposes.
The Accounting Manager II provides resolutions to a diverse range of problems consistent with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the University Controller’s Office, and consistent with a comprehensive understanding of accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable regulations, and university policies and procedures.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Manages the Operations of the Restricted & Endowment Funds department.
- Ensures Endowment income is distributed in accordance with University guidelines.
- Ensures that a monthly reconciliation is performed between the Oracle GL, Fundriver and Northern Trust for University investment activity.
- Categorizes and reconciles the Level of Determination file for Cash and Investments into the proper classifications for financial reporting for year-end and quarter-end as needed.
- Ensures that the monthly reconciliation of General Ledger and Project sub-ledger balances is performed for the Endowment and Restricted Gifts fund types.
- Processes and/or approves new Project requests for Restricted & Endowment funds ensuring accurate and timely processing.
- Ensures the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.
- Provides professional, prompt, and courteous service to clients by resolving or directing employees to resolve financial issues.
- Works directly with Rutgers University Foundation on the processing of endowment and gift funds transferred to the University and the opening of new projects at the University, along with other inquiries.
- Interprets, communicates, and implements policies and practices to meet the needs of a diverse client population.
- Handles the supervision of two employees, conduct evaluations, or have authority to hire and fire staff.
- Works independently, with broadly defined work objectives.
- Performs professional work requiring specialized knowledge in one or general knowledge in several fields of accounting/finance, and a solid understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, terminology, and applied bases in an area of specialization.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in a financial/accounting function.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.
- Proven ability to work independently with good analytical and problem solving skills around accounting analytics and processes.
- Ability to exhibit strong knowledge of US GAAP/GASB.
- Ability to adapt and or implement new or improved system processes, procedures and technologies.
- Ability to provide timely and professional customer service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree/CPA.
- Experience working with an ERP system, Oracle Cloud, Endowment accounting.
- Previous supervisory experience.
Special Conditions
- May be required to work extended hours during the fiscal year-end closing period and other peak periods throughout the year.
