Job Description

The Human Resources Assistant provides comprehensive administrative and operational support to the Human Resources department, with primary responsibility for hiring and onboarding processes, including background screenings, employment documentation, HRIS data management, transcript collection, I-9 compliance, and employee separation activities. The role also delivers broad administrative support by managing department communications, processing tuition waivers, employment verifications, reports, meeting coordination, travel arrangements, records management, notary services, and building administration. Additionally, the position supports budget and financial operations through requisition and reimbursement processing, invoice payments, purchasing card reconciliations, supply inventory management, and fiscal year procurement preparation. A strong customer service component includes assisting applicants, employees, vendors, and visitors, answering inquiries, directing guests, and screening phone calls to ensure efficient and professional service.



This is a non-exempt position reporting to the Assistant Director, HR and Employee Development. This position requires work to be performed on-campus.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.


Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorship.

Required Education


High School diploma or GED

Required Experience


  • Minimum of two years of administrative support or human resources experience
  • Current notary or ability to obtain certification within 3 months of hire
  • Experience can be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources obtained within the last 3 years

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Proficiency in operating computers and related software, printers, and other standard office equipment
  • Demonstrated excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines and shift priorities with little notice
  • Proven ability to quickly adapt to new technology
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • Skill in using mathematics to solve problems
  • Ability to accurately prepare documents, reports, and correspondence
  • Patient and optimistic demeanor

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience utilizing AdobeSign
  • Experience using Ellucian Banner
  • Recent experience providing support within an HR department
  • Recent HR certification or training
  • Experience with invoice/purchasing reconciliation

General Weekly Work Schedule



Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May be the occasional need for overtime.
