Overview

The Assistant Dean of Academic Advising provides strategic leadership for academic advising at Salem State
University. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for the Center for Academic Excellence, the Assistant Dean leads the development,
implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of a shared advising model that promotes student success, persistence, and on-time
degree completion.

The Assistant Dean collaborates with colleagues across the Student Success and Academic Affairs divisions, working
with deans, faculty, and professional staff to strengthen advising practices, enhance the student experience, and advance institutional
goals related to retention and graduation. The position serves as the institution’s lead administrator for advising strategy, assessment,
policy development, advisor training, and advising technologies.

Required Qualifications:


  1. Master’s
    degree
  2. Eight years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising, student success, retention, or related higher
    education administration
  3. Experience supervising professional staff
  4. Experience using data to make
    decisions

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Doctoral degree
  2. Experience
    with student success platforms (e.g. EAB Navigate 360)
  3. Experience supervising employees in a unionized
    environment
  4. Experience with shared advising models
  5. Experience collaborating with faculty and academic
    leadership
  6. Experience with advisor training
  7. Demonstrated experience successfully leading cross-functional
    teams
  8. Demonstrated commitment to access, equity, and student success

Working Location


This is an
onsite position in Salem, MA with on-campus, in-person responsibilities, which may require occasional/frequent/regular work on evenings and
weekends.
