Description

The Advising Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the
day-to-day efforts of the advising team while actively managing a caseload of current students. This role focuses on supporting students,
particularly those in General Studies or undecided pathways, in exploring academic programs, clarifying career goals, and progressing toward
completion. The coordinator provides guidance and direction to advisors to ensure consistent, student-centered service while personally
delivering comprehensive advising that supports student success, persistence, and goal attainment.


Job Duties

  • Demonstrates IWCC’s core mission, vision and values
  • Coordinate and support
    the daily operations and workflow of the advising team
  • Provide guidance and direction to advisors to ensure consistent, accurate,
    and student-centered advising practices
  • Assist in the hiring, onboarding, and training processes for new advisors
  • Maintain
    an active advising caseload, with a focus on General Studies and undecided students
  • Guide students in exploring academic programs,
    career pathways, and transfer opportunities
  • Assist students with course registration and schedule planning aligned with their
    academic goals
  • Support students with understanding billing, financial aid, and related processes
  • Advise students on program
    changes, academic options, and degree completion pathways
  • Help students develop academic plans that promote persistence and timely
    completion
  • Provide holistic advising support, addressing a wide range of student needs and concerns
  • Connect students with
    appropriate campus resources and services when needs fall outside advising scope
  • Monitor student progress and proactively engage
    students who may need additional support
  • Collaborate with academic departments and student services to ensure coordinated support
    for students
  • Track and manage student engagement and activity using CRM or student information systems
  • Contribute to the
    continuous improvement of advising practices, processes, and student outcomes
  • Support special initiatives related to student
    retention, completion, and success
  • Can make decisions in matters if significance
  • Other duties as
    assigned


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in higher education, counseling, student
    affairs, or a related field
  • Experience in academic advising, student services, or a related area in higher
    education
  • Demonstrated experience advising students on academic planning, course selection, and degree
    progression
  • Experience working with undecided, general studies, or exploratory students preferred
  • Strong knowledge of
    student support services, including registration, financial aid, billing, and academic policies
  • Ability to guide students in career
    exploration and transfer planning
  • Prior experience providing guidance or supervision to staff or student employees
  • Excellent
    interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and support a diverse student population
  • Strong
    problem-solving skills and the ability to address complex student situations with care and professionalism
  • Proven ability to manage
    a caseload while balancing coordination or leadership responsibilities
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time
    management skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, academic departments, and campus service areas
  • Experience
    using CRM systems (e.g., Element 451) or student information systems to track student engagement and advising activity
  • Ability to
    maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in student-related matters
  • Commitment to a holistic, student-centered advising
    philosophy focused on student success, retention, and completion
  • Ability to pass a background
    check

Physical Demands


  • The employee frequently is required to sit for extended
    periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipment
  • While performing the duties of this
    job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
  • Ability to lift up to 10lbs
