General Description of the Position
The Aircraft Mechanic position is a Professional Staff employee reporting to the Chief of Maintenance. The individual will be expected to perform and assist with the maintenance required to keep the Delaware State University aircraft in airworthy condition.

Essential Functions
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
- Perform maintenance and inspections in accordance with the applicable FARs and manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Ensure that all aircraft maintenance scheduled to be accomplished is completed in the most efficient means possible while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
- Keep the work area and equipment used in a clean and orderly condition.
- Reports issues, malfunctions, unusual wear, or damage to Chief of Maintenance.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations, Part 141
- Experience in reading and understanding Supplemental Type Certificates (STC), Airworthiness Directives (AD), and Service Bulletins (SB)
- Prior experience in troubleshooting, inspection and repair of avionics systems required.
- Requires ability to twist, bend, squat, climb, crawling and/or other body movements to successfully accomplish the requirements of the position.
- Normal physical exertion required for periods of working on foot or standing; requires lifting/carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Qualification Standards
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School education
- Have working knowledge of FAR Part 65 and FAR Part 43
- Current FAA Airframe / Powerplant Certificate
- Experience in an aviation maintenance environment working on GA aircraft
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 years’ experience maintaining aircraft operating under FAR Part 141
- FAA Private Pilot’s Certification, and ability to maintain FAA 3rd Class medical and pilot currency or proficiency requirements
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation or a related field
- Inspector Authorization renewal as per FAR Part 65.93
