Wilkes University invites applicants for a full-time, 12-month Assistant Professor of Reading and Elementary Education serving the
undergraduate department. The Dr. Richard Abbas Alley School of Education provides opportunities for students to grow academically,
personally and professionally. The Early Childhood and Elementary program promotes an appreciation for diversity, child development, as well
as a regard for research-based and innovative practices. The ethics of service and dedication are expected of Teacher Education students to
meet the unique needs of all students within the learning community.
The successful candidate will teach early literacy and math
methods courses in online, hybrid and face to face courses as needed. They will also coordinate the Early Childhood Education pathway
program, advise students enrolled in this program, and collaborate with early childcare centers across Pennsylvania. An earned doctorate in
education, child development, child and family studies, or a related discipline is required. A Reading/Literacy Specialist Certification or
willingness to obtain one is preferred. Candidates will demonstrate successful collaboration with others, leadership in the field of
elementary education, and effective and inclusive communication skills. Experience in online course development and online teaching, teacher
certification and a minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience are required. Experience teaching in higher education is
preferred.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in local and global education and an articulated scholarly research
agenda with a high potential to progress on a tenure track path.
