Job Summary


The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an Associate Vice
Chancellor of Facilities Management! Under the general direction of the Vice Chancellor for Infrastructure and Resilience, the position is
responsible for providing overall strategic leadership, coordination and administrative oversight for the development, maintenance and
repair of campus facilities and infrastructure and the delivery of logistical services. Responsibilities include oversight of physical plant
operations, facilities maintenance and repair, custodial services, solid waste and recycling programs, grounds maintenance, utility
generation and distribution, energy management, central receiving, warehousing and distribution services.The position is directly
responsible for approximately 7.2 million square feet of highly complex building space comprised of research laboratories, classrooms and
offices; indirectly supports an additional 6.3 million square feet of housing, dining, recreation, athletic and research facilities space;
maintains over 1,000 acres of land holdings; and is responsible for the campus’ utility systems including co-generated electricity and
steam; chilled water; potable water; waste water; storm water; and irrigation. The position is also responsible for central receiving and
distribution; domestic and export shipping; warehouse storage services; processing and delivery of U.S. and university mail and packages;
surplus property processing and disposal; moving and hauling services; and management of classroom furniture.The Facilities Management
organization has approximately 450 permanent employees. The role is responsible for annual operating budgets of over $47 million and a
utilities auxiliary account of approximately $43 million.

Who We Are

Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for the overall physical
development and maintenance of campus. The mission of the department is to provide a safe physical environment that promotes the advancement
and transfer of knowledge.



What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Strategic and Operational
Oversight

  • Develop and implement strategic, business, financial and operational plans for the Facilities Management
    organization to ensure proper coordination and cost effectiveness in support of campus’ mission, goals and objectives. Provide direction and
    ensure success for all facilities management activities supporting campus needs.
  • Continuously evaluate business processes to ensure
    the department is providing effective and efficient services to the campus. Leverage data analytics to review trends, costs, and
    opportunities to improve business operations.

Department and Campus Communications Management


  • Implement dynamic strategies to instill and maintain a culture of safety within the entire organization.
  • Emphasize
    exceptional customer service and proactively communicate with the campus community about services provided.
  • Work in concert with
    the campus community to ensure facilities operations and services are consistently responsive to the needs of campus, and ensures the
    continuity of the university’s mission of education and research. Participate on the campus Incident Management Team and represent the
    campus on local and regional utility issues.

Leadership and Management

  • Provide leadership and
    integrate continuous process improvement, safety, sustainability and resilience into our core operating practices, plans, and projects.
    Improve sustainable supply chain management, enhance energy security and resilience for critical facilities and missions, focus on life
    cycle cost analysis for investments in facilities, and reduce use of chemicals in facilities operations among other sustainability and
    resilience initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and management that emphasizes partnership and working relationships to a highly diverse
    staff. Develop an organizational culture where employees feel empowered and valued.
  • Advise campus executive leadership and other
    campus constituents on matters related to facility operational issues and other matters relevant to the use of campus physical assets.

Budget, Maintenance and Technology Management


  • Provide
    effective management of fiscal resources, including development of and compliance with multi-year facilities and utilities budgets
    supporting the achievement of campus and departmental goals.
  • Develop and implement short and long-range plans supporting campus,
    division and departmental priorities and goals.
  • Oversee long-term planning, production and distribution of all campus utilities.
    Develop plans to improve energy efficiency, improve energy use intensity, integration of renewable energy, energy resilience in our
    facilities, and support the campus energy transition in alignment with the campus Climate Action Plan goals of reducing campus carbon
    emissions 50% by 2030 and 100% by no later than 2050. Work harmoniously with academia, research, the city of Boulder, utility provider,
    industry, national labs, and state and federal agencies to harness our existing micro-grid to create innovative solutions related to energy
    distribution, storage, and control systems.
  • Work closely with the Office of Information Technology, PD&C, and the VCIR Business
    Office on development of technology solutions that will enhance security, improve facilities operations, sustainability, and
    resilience.

What You Should Know

This is a primarily in-person position that has an anticipated working
schedule of Monday – Friday during regular business hours.


What We Can Offer
The salary range for this
position is $230,000 – $265,000, depending on qualifications. Signing bonus is available within department guidelines.

What We
Require

  • Master’s degree in Public Administration, Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, Facilities
    Management, or directly related field. A combination of relevant experience and education may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year
    basis.
  • Eight years of increasingly responsible facilities-related management experience in a large and complex environment including
    at least five years of senior leadership in an organization with multiple departments and functions.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Knowledge of and experience in managing facilities at a public
    higher education research institution of comparable size to the Boulder campus.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Facilities
    Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field.
  • Certified Facilities Manager (CFM), Certified
    Educational Facilities Professional (CEFP), Professional Engineer (PE) or closely related certification.
