Job Description

The purpose of this position is to operate the HCC’s Dr. James & Lynne LaCalle Chesapeake Gallery. This is accomplished by installing and de-installing exhibitions, promoting exhibits and events, overseeing the gallery’s digital presence, working with and serving as a member of the Gallery and Arts on Campus Committee (GACC) to curate exhibitions and plan events, communicating with artists to execute exhibitions and events, budget oversight, funding support, and performing general administrative duties.



The Coordinator, LaCalle Chesapeake Gallery, is responsible for duties including but not limited to:

  • Planning LaCalle Chesapeake Gallery exhibitions and related events in collaboration with the Gallery and Arts on Campus Committee (GACC).
  • Managing all aspects of exhibitions, including communicating with artists, scheduling, installations, maintenance, deinstallations, and coordinating the shipping and receiving of artwork as needed.
  • Overseeing the promotion and publication of gallery exhibitions, including management of the gallery website and social media presence.
  • Engaging in educational and co-curricular planning, including oversight of internships and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • Generating documentation of all exhibition artwork and managing the overall operation and maintenance of the gallery space.
  • Conducting community outreach to strengthen the gallery’s visibility and impact.
  • Building, maintaining, and regularly communicating with a network of patrons.
  • Enhancing, expanding, and improving the gallery’s impact on the College as well as the local and broader regional community.
  • Establishing partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance gallery utilization, sponsorships, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Planning, coordinating, and promoting events that utilize the gallery space for stakeholders within the College and throughout the county and local region.
  • Maintaining an annual calendar of events.
  • Attending monthly GACC meetings and providing updates on exhibitions, events, and gallery activities.
  • Ordering and maintaining gallery supplies and equipment.
  • Managing the organizational budget.
  • Maintaining the College’s art collection within the gallery’s temperature-controlled storage area.
  • Working with the Grants Director to identify and pursue grant opportunities and other fundraising initiatives.

This is a full-time, exempt staff position.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.


Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Curatorial Studies or a related field


Required Experience

Minimum of two years of gallery experience in exhibition planning and installation


Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to install and de-install exhibition materials, including two- and three-dimensional works, multimedia works, and installation pieces
  • Knowledgeable of art gallery processes and procedures and how to market exhibitions
  • Ability to effectively use web-based tools and social media platforms to promote the gallery and events
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively and effectively with those employed by the College, students, volunteers, artists, community members, and organizations
  • Ability to work with lighting systems for optimal display of works
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and promote events with a range of stakeholders within and outside of the College
  • Ability to promote and plan co-curricular and educational events
  • Ability to assist with the ongoing care and maintenance of art collections
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with close attention to details
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office 365

Preferred Qualifications


  • Curatorial experience
  • Event planning experience
  • Masters of Fine Arts or Curatorial Studies
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or other design programs
  • Web design and social media marketing experience
  • Grant and fundraising experience

General Weekly Work Schedule

Varies, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
