Mines IT Department is seeking our next Data Integration Engineer!
The Data Integration Engineer is
responsible for the development, implementation, and support of secure data integrations, migrations, and ETL/ELT pipelines across the
university’s ERP, student information system, and data warehouse. As a key member of the Application Services team, this role is a driver of
campus-wide data interoperability and growth of the Workday ecosystem. The person in this role builds and maintains data pipelines that
automate workflows, eliminate operational bottlenecks, and support institutional reporting and system connectivity, benefiting students,
faculty, and staff.
This position currently operates in a hybrid work model with regular campus presence required. Work arrangements
are subject to change based on institutional needs. The successful candidate must be able to commute to campus in Golden,
Colorado.
Position Summary
The Data Integration Engineer is primarily responsible for developing, implementing, and
supporting data integrations and migrations for the ERP, student information system, data warehouse, and new system implementations. This
individual is a member of the Application Services team within the Information Technology Department.
The Data Integration Engineer
helps build an environment that supports process efficiency and effectiveness, integrating systems into the existing Mines application
landscape and the data warehouse. They work with the Institutional Research and Analytics (IRSA) team and other campus stakeholders to
populate the Mines data warehouse with data needed to support campus analysis and reporting. Additionally, they are focused on building and
supporting system-to-system data integration solutions that align with industry trends and position the school for long-term growth and
sustainability.
This person establishes and applies best practices and research, resolves complex day-to-day integration and
migration issues, gathers requirements from vendors and business partners for data migrations and integrations, and builds solutions to meet
those requirements.
This team member contributes to a healthy, productive environment by identifying and creating best practices that
drive innovation and business improvements.
CREATE AND SUPPORT DATA WAREHOUSE MIGRATIONS
- Analyze new systems and work
with business and technical teams to develop functional and technical requirements to integrate them with the data
warehouse. - Develop and execute data migration solutions that ensure the new systems contain the data necessary to enable proper
function and provide the historical data necessary to meet the needs of the business. - Build and maintain solutions that use ETL/ELT
(extract, transform, and load) tools, pre-built application data migration tools and utilities, and batch upload scripts using secure file
transfer methods. - Support the migration of business data associated with new application implementations, consolidations, and
business process improvements through project participation, data analysis and troubleshooting, and end-to-end execution of data load
processes. - Manipulate and transform large data sets in a database to effectively troubleshoot issues and conduct data
analysis.
CREATE AND SUPPORT DATA INTEGRATIONS
- Analyze new systems and work with business and technical teams to
develop functional and technical requirements to integrate them with existing systems. - Develop and maintain data integrations and
components, utilizing pre-built application data integration connectors, internal and external API-based integrations, and batch upload
integrations using secure file transfer methods. - Determine and design changes to existing system integrations that improve
performance or enhance operations as driven by business needs. - Ensure data structures and integration data flows are well documented
and facilitate processes and procedures to ensure documentation is comprehensive and kept up to date as support and change requirements
evolve. - Monitor the movement of data between systems and data stores, maintaining the integrity of data, providing for required
transformations, and ensuring error-free, timely, and documented execution. Detect and diagnose integration processing exceptions and
resolve them using developed solutions. - Establish, monitor, and maintain alerting/notifications and metrics related to all
integrations - Partner with the Information Security, Privacy, and Compliance teams to ensure data structures and data flows allow
only “need to know” access to enterprise and other sensitive data within the environment.
OUTREACH AND COMMUNICATIONS
- The employee in this position communicates frequently with IRSA, application stakeholders, report writers and consumers.
Communication includes project, system availability, and ticket updates. Effective communication ensures ticket resolution, keeps projects
moving forward, and delivers expected results.
Minimum Qualifcations
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or
university in computer science, information technology, or equivalent advanced technical training and experience. Individuals without a
related degree may be considered if they demonstrate possession of the same knowledge level found in a degree but have attained advanced
knowledge through a combination of work experience and intellectual instruction using a 1:1 substitution. - 3+ years of experience
with integrations and application/data warehouse APIs. - 2+ years of experience designing, developing, and executing integrations in a
developer or administrator role with demonstrated use of operational data store (ODS), OLAP, OLTP, EDW, modern ERP
system(s). - Experience working with relational databases, data modeling, migrations and optimizations.
- Experience automating
and/or maintaining scheduled jobs to ensure maximum data uptime. - Experience in designing workflows to solve business and technical
problems. - Experience integrating structured and unstructured data formats: files, XML, JSON, EXCEL.
- Experience integrating
data from any source via API, SFTP, or browser-based file uploads. - Experience with on-prem and SaaS enterprise software (Workday,
Ellucian Banner SaaS), modern cloud solutions (AWS, Azure, Dell Boomi, Mulesoft, Informatica, Workday cloud, etc.), systems and integration
strategies. - Experience with ETL tools like SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Azure Data Factory (ADF), Oracle Data Integrator
(ODI), iPaaS. - SQL coding skills
- Ability to convey ideas and recommendations to a wide variety of audiences at all levels in
a clear, compelling and succinct way in written and verbal communications. - Analytical skills and experience with complete lifecycle
of enterprise projects. - Exceptional understanding of industry-accepted security best practices.
- Knowledge of SDLC and SaaS
solution implementation and management. - Knowledge of the Data Processing Cycle.
Preferred
Qualifications
- Proven ability to read and analyze raw data files and compare with transformed data to identify processing
problems. - Experience in higher education.
- Knowledge of reporting tools, SQL (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS), BI Tools (Tableau, Power BI,
etc.) to support the development and maintenance of business reporting. - Experience in foundational web service technologies such as
SOAP, REST, and JSON. - Experience with cloud data warehouse solutions such as Edify.
- Experience with SaaS integration
development involving platforms such as Workday and Ellucian Banner SaaS. - Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting
languages: Java, C++, Visual Basic .NET, Python, etc.
Salary and Benefits
$84,800-91,600
