About MCC
Metropolitan Community College is the oldest public institution of higher learning in Kansas City, Missouri, founded in 1915 as the Kansas City Polytechnic Institute. The Junior College of Kansas City, as it was known starting in 1919, was one of the first schools in the country to award an associate degree. Today, MCC offers 125 associate degree and certificate programs.
Metropolitan Community College comprises five campuses on the Missouri side of the Greater Kansas City area 47 major buildings and about 550 acres in all: MCC-Blue River, located in Independence, Missouri; MCC-Longview located in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, MCC-Maple Woods located in the Northland of Kansas City, Missouri; MCC-Online and MCC-Penn Valley, located in Midtown Kansas City, Missouri.
MCC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. In addition, several programs have specific accreditations as well.

Job Summary
Incumbents provide assistance and counseling to Financial Aid Advisors regarding student options of financial aid, programs, and course offerings.
Essential Functions
- Provide assistance to students and campus Financial Aid personnel by providing advice and information related to financial assistance programs, academic services and offerings, and enrollment processes; work may involve responding to inquiries via phone, email, or in person; and reviewing information to determine program, aid, and scholarship eligibility
- Direct contact with students is minimal but is necessary in some instances. Incumbent’s major duties may include: awarding student Federal, State, Institutional, Foundation, and Third Party aid through batch and individual processes; monitoring the accuracy of awards, files exchanges with outside agencies, changes in enrollment and academic progress; verifying student files and determining eligibility; requesting and returning aid; reconciling accounts; ensuring compliance and maintaining a thorough and up-to-date understanding of Institutional policies and procedures
- Provide advising, troubleshooting and supporting functions to campus financial aid advisors, managers, deans, directors, instructors and front-line staff on the eligibility of all the different student aid programs. Serve as the financial aid subject matter experts for the areas they are responsible for; analyze complex situations and find solutions
- Research and stay abreast of federal guidelines regarding verification, DoE rules and regulations, and Federal Student Loan regulations
- Process financial aid applications, appeals, and/or returns of financial assistance; reconcile accounts; ensure that all information is accurate; recommend, track, approve, and/or award individual awards/scholarships
- Prepare, maintain, and/or review reports, records, promotional materials, and other documentation; work may involve utilizing online systems and databases to record information; and compiling, researching, and analyzing information
- Coordinate with internal and external staff, departments, and agencies, to communicate information, provide recommendations, represent the College, and facilitate departmental operations
- Assist with/or develop special programs relating to financial aid that provide services to the College’s community. Incumbents provide guidance and support to campus financial aid staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- One (1) year experience related to financial aid
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree
*Minimum Education Qualification can be substituted with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of financial aid procedures and practices
- Knowledge of financial aid programs
- Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations
- Knowledge of basic filing and recordkeeping principles
- Knowledge of customer service principles
- Knowledge of basic budgeting principles
- Knowledge of computers and related software applications
- Skilled in processing financial aid applications
- Skilled in providing customer service
- Skilled in operating modern office equipment
- Skilled in applying applicable laws, rules and regulations
- Skilled in monitoring scholarship and loan funds
- Skilled in maintaining files and records
- Skilled in using a computer and related software applications
- Skilled in utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.
Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require feeling, grasping, hearing, keyboarding, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
