Job Duties
The Police Dispatcher monitors department’s communications system. Responds to emergency
and
non-emergency calls for service and assistance by dispatching personnel via radio, telephone, or other
methods of communication.
Obtains information from callers to determine appropriate response methods and responds to message requests, including secure networks,
regarding confidential information.
The Police Dispatcher operates the Virginia Crime Information Network (VCIN) teletype equipment
to address all messages and inquiries. Assist walk-ins to the department-Monitors safety devices. Provide administrative support to the
department.
Minimum Qualifications * Working knowledge of office practices and procedures.
* The candidate
should be skilled in keyboarding.
* Demonstrate the ability to operate voice communications equipment.
* Must have the ability to
organize and prioritize tasks and assignments and work independently.
* Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally
and in writing.
* Must be able to respond quickly in emergencies.
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalency.
* Must be
willing to accept varied work shift assignments.
