Overview


Perform general facilities maintenance, repair, renovation and installation duties including carpentry, plumbing or mechanical work, in a safe and prescribed manner. Execute maintenance work orders as assigned, confer with administrator or contractor as appropriate. Follow safety guidelines and inspect equipment/systems on a regular basis.

Responsibilities


Maintenance / Repairing – including, but not limited to:

  • Troubleshoot motors, equipment, lighting and emergency lighting systems.
  • Perform brazing/soldering – light sheet, tubing
  • Maintain and repair rotating equipment – shafts, bearings and sheaves, seals and pumps (Vertical and horizontal alignments).
  • Repair and install piping – copper (all types), ¼-4″ carbon steel, stainless/plastic, sch. 10-80, 1.2-8″.
  • Repair plumbing – sinks, toilets, faucets, water coolers, etc.
  • Repair items or equipment as assigned.

Installation – including, but not limited to:


  • Install and make emergency repairs to various kinds of fixtures and equipment.
  • Install floor and ceiling tiles, set forms and finished cement; install locks/dead bolts.
  • Process sanitary/storm systems.
  • Prepares layout, using rule, framing square, and calipers.
  • Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools.
  • Apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, lacquer or other protective/decorative finishes various surfaces.

Safety Inspection – including, but not limited to:

  • Maintain a safe and orderly workplace.
  • Follow all departmental safety and work procedures and attend required safety training classes.
  • Interpret equipment manuals, diagrams, and schematics to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Inspect equipment, diagnose defects, and replace parts; repair and replace electronic controls.
  • Inspect the work of self and others, and review work for accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness.
  • Notify managers of safety issue hazardous situations in a timely manner.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.


Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates preferred.
  • Vocational or technical school training desirable.
  • COL license desirable.
  • Active NJ Black Seal license desirable.
  • Four years directly related experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements


  • Knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned area of work.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance, installation, and advanced skill in the operation of various equipment that is essential to the position.
  • Interpersonal, communications, and customer service skills.
  • Computer literacy skills at an intermediate level with the demonstrated ability to utilize and apply Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as specialized software programs and computer applications.
  • Ability to learn and apply office practices, procedures, policies, and regulations that are essential to the position.
  • Valid driver’s license required
