Title: Shuttle Driver
Position Purpose:
The Bates Shuttle Driver working through Bobcat
Express transports students in vehicles, including up to 11-passenger vans, to and from off-campus locations within the surrounding
Lewiston-Auburn community.
Job Duties:
- Transports students from campus to locations in
Lewiston-Auburn area in a timely manner. - Transports students having mobility assistance needs between locations on campus and in
Lewiston-Auburn area in a timely manner. - Behaves professionally and with courtesy toward student passengers.
- Inspects the
Bates vehicle at the beginning of each shift for cleanliness, scratches, dents, and other damage. If any of these discrepancies are noted,
the Bates Bobcat Express Shuttle Driver should report it to the Transportation Coordinator at the Campus Safety Office. - Monitors
and ensures that the fuel level of the vehicle does not go below 1/4 of a tank. - Cleans and maintains cleanliness of the vehicle at
all times. - Reports suspicious conditions and people (loitering around buildings, vehicles, broken windows, etc.).
- Reports
violations of student conduct rules and policies to Associate Dean of Campus Life as needed. - Reports safety hazards.
- Ensures that the driver and all passengers wear seat belts at all times while the van is in operation.
- Maintains control of all
passengers at all times. - Confirms that no animals of any type, except service animals, will be transported at any time.
- Ensures that no intoxicants, illegal substances, or weapons will be transported in the vehicle at any time.
- Does not allow
smoking in the vehicle. - In the event of a medical emergency or other safety concern, the Bates Bobcat Express Shuttle Driver must
contact the Campus Safety Dispatcher immediately. - Fills in with answering phone and dispatching duties in the Transportation
Office, when necessary. - Answers incoming calls using strong customer service skills in a pleasant tone of voice.
- Maintains
daily log of incoming calls and dispatches. - Dispatches shuttle drivers using a 2-way radio system.
- Ability to communicate
verbal details without excessive or unnecessary wording.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current valid driver’s license and clean
driving record required.
Experience
- At least 1 year of experience driving multi-passenger vans
(at least 7 passenger vans) preferred. - Comfort driving in all weather conditions, including snow and ice and both day and night
hours.
Skills and Knowledge
