The Systems Administrator maintains the server and network infrastructure according to current best practices; maintains
the VoIP system, switches, wireless, e-mail, and spam systems and patch/update management for workstations and servers; troubleshoots
hardware and software problems; assists the ITS Director in providing computer and server hardware and software solutions and in designing,
installing, and configuring server and network infrastructure and related equipment; provides access, training, and usage of computer
software and facilities as required. This person must be customer-service oriented and responsive to employee and student needs and
problems. Some evening and weekend work required.



SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Administers all servers, LAN, WAN, and wireless networks including installation, configuration, and
maintenance.



2. Administers Microsoft Active Directory, group policies, and creates and edits objects.


3. Maintains daily
backups for all servers and systems (including network switches). Upgrades software with patches and new versions on a regular rotation.



4. Coordinates and communicates all security concerns and plans changes with the Director before implementation using the approved
change control procedure.


5. Implements security solutions for the server and network infrastructure as identified by the
Director.



6. Creates and maintains documentation for the support, troubleshooting, and installation of all server hardware and
software.


7. Reviews the workstation standards and configurations to ensure compliance with system standards and security
policies.



8. Serves as a resource to ITS Technicians and other ITS administrators for installation, optimization, and technical
support for all server and software applications. Provides direction and training to ITS Technicians regarding server usage.


9.
Arranges outside repairs when economically feasible and develops sources for purchasing parts efficiently and economically.



10.
Advises faculty and staff concerning the purchase of server or network related hardware and software. Trains users on new server software
and operating systems as needed.


11. Maintains network print management and sharing services.



12. Administers the student
housing network including wired and wireless networks.


13. Maintains and updates knowledge of network cabling and termination, fiber
optics, and network diagnostic and performance applications.



14. Stays up to date with current trends in the field regarding security
policies, cloud infrastructure, and security breaches.

Minimum Qualifications:


SYSTEMS
ADMINISTRATOR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(Education and Experience, Knowledge and Abilities)


1. Graduation from an
accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or closely related
field.



2. Two years of relevant work experience in the computer technical area, including workstation, server, Active
Directory, Exchange, internet/intranet servers, systems security, and significant repair and troubleshooting
experience.


3. In-depth technical knowledge and experience with command line interfaces, Windows Server operating
systems and other various popular software applications, Active Directory domains, Exchange email systems, databases, and associated
hardware and peripherals.



4. Significant training and experience with network and systems security and Microsoft
domains, blade server technologies, and group policy objects.


5. Working knowledge of anti-virus/spyware software and
ability to recognize and eradicate malicious server activity.



6. Ability to setup, service, troubleshoot, maintain and
repair server related hardware of various configurations.


7. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in
writing.



8. Strong customer service skills.


9. Ability to work well with a wide variety of College
employees and students in the educational setting of the community college.



10. Strong researching
ability.


11. Experience in, or the ability to work, in a team environment.


Equivalency
Statement

For those candidates who do not exactly meet all minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination
of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be accepted.


Preferred
Qualifications:


PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience, Knowledge and
Abilities).
1. Experience with Microsoft and Linux server environments.



2. Experience with Cisco and Brocade CLI.


3.
Experience with VMWare and Hyper-V virtualization technology.



4. Experience with, or knowledge of Veeam Backup Server installation
and administration.


5. Experience providing server support in a large enterprise environment, preferably
academic.
