About MCC

Metropolitan Community College is the oldest public institution of higher learning in Kansas City, Missouri, founded in 1915 as the Kansas City Polytechnic Institute. The Junior College of Kansas City, as it was known starting in 1919, was one of the first schools in the country to award an associate degree. Today, MCC offers 125 associate degree and certificate programs.



Metropolitan Community College comprises five campuses on the Missouri side of the Greater Kansas City area 47 major buildings and about 550 acres in all: MCC-Blue River, located in Independence, Missouri; MCC-Longview located in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, MCC-Maple Woods located in the Northland of Kansas City, Missouri; MCC-Online and MCC-Penn Valley, located in Midtown Kansas City, Missouri.

MCC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. In addition, several programs have specific accreditations as well.

Job Summary

Incumbents supervise and coordinate testing and assessment functions to prospective and current students.

Essential Functions


  • Supervise testing center staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; coordinating staff training; and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures
  • Coordinate operations of the testing center; work may involve coordinating the preparation and administration of testing programs; preparing staff schedules; coordinating with students, instructors, and other internal and external staff, departments, and/or agencies to facilitate operations; and assisting staff and students when necessary
  • Monitor the testing center’s budget; work may involve monitoring expenditures, fees, and payments; reconciling fees and payments; analyzing financial information; and approving purchase or other monetary requests
  • Coordinate operations related to contract testing; work may involve preparing testing contracts for off-site testing
  • Oversee the maintenance of the testing center, to include ensuring that staff troubleshoot system/ equipment issues, contact the IT department to resolve issues, and replenish inventory.
  • Prepare, maintain, and review reports, records, forms, logs, and other documentation; ensure that procedure manuals and certifications are updated; ensure that all documentation is prepared and recorded in a timely and accurate manner, and comply with applicable policies and guidelines; report preparation may involve researching, compiling, and analyzing data, and making recommendations based on findings
  • Ensure that staff provide excellent customer service and support to students, instructors, and other parties, as well as adhere to testing standardization, test-specific procedures, and ethical requirements; work may involve documenting instances of unauthorized test supplements; reporting incidents to appropriate individuals/departments; and ensuring that tests are handled and transported in accordance with confidentiality and other applicable guidelines and policies
  • Develop and revise processes and procedures to improve service delivery and ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures; ensures that applicable parties, including students, faculty, and community members are updated regarding change
  • Attend meetings and serves on campus and District Committees, and serve as a liaison to students, staff, faculty, and other internal and external agencies, to represent the department; provide recommendation regarding operational and process improvement; communicate information regarding testing programs, services, and instruments; and facilitate related information
  • May perform testing specialist duties to include administering tests; communicating with students regarding testing requirements and procedures; processing test requests; and printing, filing, and returning completed tests to instructors
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree*
  • Two (2) years testing-related experience

*Minimum Education Qualification can be substituted with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master’s degree preferred

Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require grasping, hearing, keyboarding, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.
