CMU Tech is seeking a
dedicated and detail-oriented Tool Room Clerk to join our Transportation Services team. This position is responsible for maintaining an
organized tool room, managing inventory, issuing and receiving tools and equipment, and ensuring all tools are in good working condition.
The Tool Room Clerk will assist various departments with their tool and equipment needs and play a key role in ensuring smooth and efficient
operations.



OVERVIEW AND ROLE SCOPE OF TEAM AND/OR TASKS

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Inventory
    Management:
    Track, organize, and maintain an accurate inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies in the tool room. Update records for
    tool usage, returns, and repairs.
  • Tool Issuance & Return: Issue and receive tools and equipment to faculty, staff, and
    maintenance teams. Ensure items are properly checked in and out, documenting any damages or missing items.
  • Maintenance &
    Inspection:
    Regularly inspect tools for wear and tear, report damage or malfunction, and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.
    Ensure tools are cleaned and serviced regularly.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed logs of all tool transactions, usage, and
    inventory levels. Ensure compliance with university policies and safety regulations.
  • Customer Service: Provide assistance to
    faculty, staff, and students by answering tool-related questions, offering guidance on tool selection, and ensuring safe handling and use of
    equipment.
  • Tool Organization: Ensure the tool room is clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary tools and materials
    for university maintenance and projects.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow and enforce safety protocols and procedures related to
    tool usage, storage, and maintenance. Ensure tools and equipment are safely stored and handled to prevent accidents or
    injuries.
  • Reporting: Assist in generating reports on tool usage, inventory levels, and maintenance needs, ensuring proper
    documentation for budgeting and operational purposes.
  • Fleet Management: Manage CMU Tech fleet of vehicles, which includes 3
    automobiles, 12 police cars, 2 fire trucks, and 2 ambulances. Duties include, but are not limited to, coordinating the use of automobiles by
    CMU Tech faculty and staff, ensuring automobiles are clean and have adequate fuel, and arranging for service and maintenance of all
    vehicles.

Required:

  • Education: High school diploma or
    equivalent required.
  • Experience: Familiarity with tools used for automotive repair and maintenance
    required.
  • Current Driver’s License
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and record-keeping
      skills.
    • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a
      team.
    • Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and maintenance procedures.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and
      written.
    • Proficient in the use of computer software, including inventory management systems.
    • Ability to lift and handle
      tools and equipment as needed.



Preferred:

  • Education: Associate’s degree or relevant technical
    certifications preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in inventory management, tool handling, or a similar clerical role
    preferred. Previous experience operating a forklift preferred.
