- JOB DESCRIPTION

Performs responsible supervision of the custodial services throughout the University buildings. Work involves checking on employee attendance, inspecting the buildings, assigning work to be performed, supervising each day’s activities, and the ordering of custodial supplies. Work is performed and reviewed under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Physical Plant, Manager, Residence Life Operations, or Coordinator of Facilities and Member Services with latitude for decision-making.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent is required.Five years of experience in the supervision of general custodial and janitorial work is required.
Physical abilities sufficient to perform job functions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Inspects the University buildings and facilities to determine the need for repair or other services.
- Reviews the work of Custodians engaged in custodial activities, advises the manager on need for building repair and maintenance activities.
- Assigns work to Custodial Workers and observes work performance.
- Instructs others in proper techniques and reviews work for compliance with established standards of performance.
- Obtains supplies and distributes them to custodial personnel.
- Maintains record of time worked by custodial staff.
- Maintains record of property, supplies, and other materials necessary for successful completion of custodial duties.
- Some custodial positions may require the operation of a University vehicle.

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Knowledge of cleaning and janitorial materials, equipment and methods.
- Knowledge of the internal layout of the University’s buildings.
- Ability to instruct custodial and related workers in proper work methods and techniques.
- Ability to plan, layout, and supervise work of other custodial workers.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform other necessary clerical tasks.
- Some custodial positions may require operating a University vehicle and if so it will be necessary for employee to possess a valid Texas driver’s license and qualify for university driver certification.
