Zalk Veterinary Medical Library


Job Description

Responsible for
the day-to-day operations of the Zalk Veterinary Medical Library under the overall supervision of the Veterinary Medicine Librarian. Provide
library support for the faculty, staff, and students in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). Perform a wide variety of functions,
including but not limited to circulation, interlibrary loan, reference assistance, and collection maintenance. Responsible for reserves.
Hire, train, and supervise student assistants who staff the veterinary library.


Key Job Duties:


Reference:

  • Assist with reference questions using print and electronic resources available through the MU
    Libraries.
  • Perform database searches for CVM faculty, staff, and students.
  • Update library research guides (LibGuide).

Circulation, Reserve, and Interlibrary Loan:


  • Serve as the front-line person for the Circulation Desk.
    Duties include checking items out to patrons, checking items in, entering new patrons, and placing holds for patrons. Send
    overdue/replacement fines and waive fines as necessary.
  • Assist patrons in locating items in the library.
  • Process
    incoming and outgoing UM System/MOBIUS loan requests.
  • Troubleshoot patron problems with loans and their UM library account.
  • Responsible for all reserve functions in the Veterinary Medical Library. Work closely with CVM faculty to ensure that course materials
    are available on reserve.
  • Oversee Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery services. Process ILL requests from faculty, staff, and
    students. Use bibliographic resources to assist patrons with interlibrary loan verification (e.g., PubMed, CAB Abstracts) and to
    troubleshoot patron problems.
  • Manage library collection and circulation functions using ILS.

Technical Services
and Collection Maintenance:

  • Work with MU Libraries Technical Services to ensure materials are cataloged and processed
    appropriately. Send serials to Technical Services for binding when requested.
  • Coordinate collection maintenance projects such as
    sending materials to off-site storage, inventories, shifting, and weeding.
  • Responsible for the environmental monitoring system.


CVM Archives:

  • Ensure preservation of CVM archival material, including preparing online CVM news stories
    for deposit into MO space.

Exhibits & Displays:

  • Plan and create monthly displays related to events
    important to the College. Create online Research Guides to accompany physical displays.

Library
Statistics:


  • Collect, tabulate, and submit monthly library usage statistics.


Supervisory:

  • Hire, train, and supervise student assistants.
  • Manage the schedule of student assistants.


Other Duties:

  • Liaison to the CVM building coordinator in the absence of the Head Librarian. Report on facilities problems.
  • Update manuals and procedures as needed.
  • Give tours of the Veterinary Medical Library as needed.
  • May participate in
    appropriate University Libraries committees and training opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Shift


M-F, 8am-5pm

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or an
equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be
acquired is necessary


Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work
    effectively with patrons and staff.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and meet speed and accuracy goals.

Anticipated Hiring Range



Salary Range: $17.40 – $18.00 hourly
