Position Summary
The Contract Seasonal Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic training services to American International College’s Division II Men’s Ice Hockey program. This position works collaboratively with team physicians, coaching staff, and sports medicine personnel to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes through injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency care.
This is a seasonal position that follows the men’s ice hockey competitive calendar and includes travel, evening, weekend, and holiday responsibilities as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide athletic training coverage for all American International College’s men’s ice hockey practices, home competitions, and designated away contests.
* Conduct injury evaluations and develop treatment and rehabilitation plans for injured student-athletes.
* Implement injury prevention programs, including taping, bracing, stretching, and recovery protocols.
* Coordinate medical care with team physicians, consultants, and other healthcare providers.
* Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation, injury reports, and treatment records.
* Implement emergency action plans and respond to athletic emergencies.
* Monitor and manage return-to-play protocols in accordance with NCAA, institutional, and medical guidelines.
* Communicate effectively with coaches regarding athlete participation status while maintaining medical confidentiality.
* Assist with concussion management, baseline testing, and other sports medicine initiatives.
* Coordinate referrals, diagnostic testing, and specialist appointments as needed.
* Travel with the team to selected away contests and postseason events.
* Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, institutional, and sports medicine policies and procedures.
* Assist with inventory management and maintenance of athletic training equipment and supplies.
Requirements:
- Required Degree(s): Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training
- Preferred Degree(s): Master’s Degree in Athletic Training
- Required Field of Expertise: Athletic Training
- Required Training/Cert: Credential by BOC, Inc.; credential in emergency cardiac care
- Required Licensure(s): Athletic Trainer licensure (or eligible) by Commonwealth of MA Board of Registration in Allied Health; valid and insurable driver’s license
- Knowledge of Athletic Training and skills beyond minimal level of qualification
- Able to manage medical situations and instruct others to assist in calm manner
- Understand and utilize basic computer functions such as word processing, spreadsheets, internet search, and web-based patient medical records management
- Ability to work a non-traditional schedule including nights and weekends, as well as some overnight travel
- Physical ability to bend, twist, reach, run, and lift at least 50 lbs.
