Job Summary
As a designated selective Federal Depository Library (FDLP),
Tuskegee University Library Services seeks a qualified candidate to manage and provide access to government documents while delivering
high-quality reference and instructional services. The incumbent will maintain familiarity with the Government Documents and Reference
collections, remain current with FDLP guidelines and communications, and respond to FDLP requirements accordingly.
Essential
Job Duties
- Process government documents (e.g., binding, stamping, labeling) in compliance with FDLP regulations and
departmental procedures. - Select and deselect federal documents in accordance with FDLP guidelines.
- Provide catalog access,
including maintaining accurate online system records. - Deliver instruction on the effective use of government documents and related
resources. - Monitor FDLP communications (listservs, FDLP Desktop, and related platf01ms) for updates impacting document processing
and access. - Provide reference services, library instruction, and serve as a faculty liaison.
- Participate in shared
decision-making within Reference Services. - Contribute to collection development activities.
- Attend and participate in
library, university, and professional meetings, committees, and conferences. - Organize and shelve materials using the SuDoc
Classification System; conduct regular shelf-reading. - Maintain the orderly appearance and accessibility of the Government Documents
area. - Supervise work-study students, including assigning duties, scheduling, and timesheets.
- Conduct shift collections as
needed to maintain organization and space efficiency. - Review and withdraw outdated materials in accordance with library
policies. - Assist patrons in locating and using government documents.
- Stay current with professional developments in
library science. - Be available to work one evening per week and weekends on a rotating basis.
- The incumbent may be required
to attend training and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized
Training)
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from an accredited institution.
- Experience in
reference services and library instruction. - Demonstrated supervisory ability.
- Experience using both traditional (print)
and electronic resources.
Skills and Attributes
- Knowledge of print and electronic resources relevant to
collection management and reference services. - Demonstrated initiative, self-direction, and ability to work collaboratively.
